Hey every one, I know that we don't get things back when we send them off to be processed for immigration - so I know that it's best to submit copies of our marriage license and our divorce orders.

Do we have to get these certified?
Could I get my husband's divorce order certified in Canada - or would that have to be done in Florida?

Thanks!

Also, would we need to submit our proof of divorce documents? Or would the fact that we were allowed to be married be enough?

Thanks again!

The US directions do not require certified copies of your documents. The only thing they require in original is the FBI clearance letter.

You need to provide evidence of prior divorces, if applicable. Again, it does not need to be certified.

The US directions? Am I missing something LOL ???

yes you need to provide proof of previous divorces and if they are in english just copies are sufficient!!!!

I would believe he is referring to the document checklist... I am American and I just sent in copies I figured if they needed to be certified the checklist would have said certified and yes you need to include copies of divorce degree...

The full list of various country specific rules is here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

The US rules are at: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3910e.pdf

You should definitely be using the US specific rules to guide you.

Ahhh ok! Thanks for that!

Divorce Decree, Certificate or Both?

i am wondering if you need both the divorce decree and certificate. Or will or the other work? I have the divorce certificate from the courthouse which they told me would suffice to get re-married. Just double checking what I need to submit for the application.

Thanks!

Just the divorce certificate is all they ask for - it establishes the legitimacy of your current marriage or partnership.
