Hi There,
Firstly, the advice on this forum is fantastic. This advice coupled with the CIC website info has given me a much clearer idea of what is needed for my PR application via the common law category. Thanks.
I am hoping someone can given me some advice regarding my current situation.
As mentioned I am hoping to apply via the common law category. My boyfriend is a Canadian citizen and we are currently in Canada. I'm an Australian citizen and arrived on a 6 month visitor visa in December.
My area is concern is the 1 year "cohabitation" qualification and does it have to be at the same address for one year?
We met in November 2008 in Asia. He arrived in Oz in early January 2009 and lived with me for 4 months. He wasn't on any of the bills etc as they were already in my name and really didn't think this was necessary. In these four months we went on three trips together and we have flight details, photos, receipts as evidence.
Due to a job offer back in Asia he left in May. I followed 6 weeks later (I had to finish up my lease on my apartment). From June - October we lived in Asia sharing the rent on a small bungalow. We paid monthly rent but it was all cash and have no evidence to prove this. We do have photos etc and can get a declaration from a local business owner on the island to back us up.
From October through to Christmas eve we traveled through Asia for two months and again have itineraries, photos, tickets, credit card statements etc etc. Even though it is not the "traditional' cohabitation we were still sharing daily expenses, rent.. I remember someone on another thread saying that they shared a campervan for seven months and this seemed to contribute to the 1 year period.
I am living with him in Canada now and starting to get my name on bank accounts , mail sent to our joint address etc.
I would love to apply now but after reading some of the posts on here maybe I should wait for a few more months?? Any advice would be great. Planning on applying outland via Australia and have no problem flying home for the interview (good excuse for a sunny holiday!).
Thanks heaps
