Hello,
could you please advise how to obtain a police certificate in Canada? Where to apply and what is the procedure like?
Thank you in advance.

When I applied for my PR, Spousal application Inland, I had been living in Canada for 2 years. Although CIC did not request this, I felt it was probably prudent to get RCMP clearance from the start, just in case.

All I did, was go to the local RCMP headquarters and get my finger prints taken, then I sent these off to the RCMP in Ottawa. I placed a copy of the fingerprint paper, along with a short note of explanation in my application package. The fingerprints cost me 35 dollars.

I never received any acknowledgment from the RCMP, nor a certificate and have no idea if CIC ever checked this but I was approved and got my PR in less than 8 months and that was Inland.

Thank you for your reply. It sounds like you never received a police certificate....but the good point is that cic never asked for it. That's good as it sounds a bit scary as on-line RCMP headquarters site says that it can take up to 4 months to get it.

It's not required for the application If the CIC needs one they will request it from you. If they do request it you can have it done elctronically and completed in 72 hours. I guess you could send it ahead of time but they will only need one if they do a name check and it is similar to someone elses and they get a hit on that name. I wouldn't waste the money at this point.
