Hi, I'm a registered nurse licensed in the States and I'm a permanent resident in Canada. Can I work in US with h1b visa? I talked to few hospitals and they only seen to know TN visa.

Not all employers are familiar with H1 even now. Also TN is cheaper and easier to shortcut the labor hence they prefer.

I am not in that field but i could see that H1 has the job code hence you can try with some other big hospital in some big city who might have more knowledge in recruiting multiple types of work visas.

Have you talked to University or higher education affiliated hospitals. They surely know about H1b. Because they don't fall under cap and can sponsor H1b anytime.

I have only heard through others .....in Detroit region.....Henry Ford does sponsor H1b for nurses. Beaumont does more TN.
