Can I start work without PR card but with a SIN number?

Hello,

My situation is as follows:

1) Got confirmation of PR and visa on my passport.

2) Got an offer letter of a job in UBC.

3) To be arrive in Vancouver on Aug 22nd. I will apply for PR card and SIN immediately after landing, and suppose to get SIN number on the spot.

4) I know the PR card will arrive 6-8 weeks later.

My question is: can I start my job on Sep 1st with the SIN number only?

Supposedly you can.

You can sure show your PR status and the fact you now have to be waiting for the card to be sent which is actually needed and a must have when re-entering Canada which does not apply to your situation, so I assume that when you have your SIN provided on the spot, you can easily go and get started with work.

I might be wrong, but then am sure other forumers here know the answer much better than me.

I had similar situation and the answer is Yes, you can start working right away. You just need your SIN number and a copy of your COPR.

Now I feel much relieved!

You know a few hours ago I realized this may be a problem and was so worried cuz my airticket is on fixed date and having a plan for vocation.
