When I go to the link to request the information ( http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5563E.pdf )
It says for requester information: Submitted by a Canadian citizen (which I am) But the address is asking for province, postal code etc and I'm actually living in Mexico.

Can I request these notes from our file when I live in Mexico? Do I just put in my Mexican address?

Thanks in advance

itscoezy, just use your mexican address and put "N/A" for province and postal code.

I used that form to do a similar request from overseas as well (Central america), I didn't have to pay the $5 fee either because I selected "Privacy Act" as the act under which I made the request.

Good luck with your process!

Thanks so much for the info!

Is there any difference between the access to information and the privacy act to your knowledge?

if I understand correctly, the Privacy Act allows you to request your own information under the control of any government agency and/or make corrections to it, whereas the Access to Information Act allows anyone to request any information in the hands of the government, although making the request under the AIA does not guarantee that you'll get it ;D.

If you are requesting information about yourself (e.g. CAIPS notes about your own case), then you can do it under the Privacy Act. If you're not sure about how to proceed you can email ATIP-AIPRP @ cic.gc.ca.
