Hi All,

My husband is a permanent resident in Canada. I am in India now. He wanted to sponsor me in the family class. We are planning to submit the documents for my PR. I don't have the birth certficate, instead we are having a affidavit of it.. My questions are:

1. Instead of the birth certificate, will they accept the affidavit of the same, my old school records which depicts my date of birth?

2. They have also asked to submit the originals of voter ID and old school records, but will they return the original copies again to me as they are very important?

We are really worried about this and I am really waiting to join my husband.. Please can anybody suggest and let me know if you have faced this kind of situation...

Thanks a lot in advance,
Janoo

I'm sure that they will return to you any important originals that you send them.

Hi,

Obtaining a birth certificate is a tedious process which is going to take lot of time.

Please can you let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Thanks Much!

I'm pretty sure there is no way without a birth certificate, but you can contact the visa office and ask.

Thanks for your advice..I will do that..

But I keep hearing in the threads that affidavit, school records, passport will do to prove the birth certificate... Please let me know if you have different opinions

Thanks,
Janoo

Hi Janoo P,

My husband applied through New Delhi and he also did not have a birth certificate. He used an affidavit in place of a birth certificate and it was accepted with no problem. Good luck!

@ Janoo P:

I am yet to begin a sponsorship application, but for my PR application, i used affidavits in place of missing birth certificates and they were accepted.

Goodluck!

they didn't return us anything except the pictures - it depends on the visa office what to return what to keep.

is it possible to send them notarized copies? it would be the best way out of this situation. if not, you will need to include a cover letter together with your originals asking them to return them back after they don't need them any longer.
