I'm listening to it. I don't know what to think about it, honestly.

Do you have any evidence to either of these claims? I suspect not.
https://www.thestar.com/news/immigration/2015/03/20/government-studies-immigrant-incomes-by-where-they-come-from.html

People from the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Australia, the Philippines, Croatia, Portugal, Serbia and India did as well or better than native-born Canadians, the study said.

At the other end of the spectrum, almost one-fifth of those from China, Haiti, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Turkey, Colombia, Iran, Morocco, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Algeria, South Korea, Iraq and Taiwan lived below the low income cut-off ($18,759 for a single person in Toronto).

You can do the math yourself

And one more thing to point out: even though it says 1/5 of people from China would live below the low income cut-off, it doesn't mean all of those 1/5 from China are poor people: many of them just earned enough money back in China and are spending it in Canada, therefore they don't really earn any income here

All the usual... For now, she put an emphasis on the fact that that Canada allows Citizenship faster than most other countries, she said Switzerland it takes 12 years, etc...
And she's talking about Citizens of convenience who live abroad and send their Children to Canadian schools to Canadian people's expense...

Well with the committee I was not expecting a whitewash for c6. However Julie is expressing her thoughts but the senators will take into account all witness - and the discussions with earlier witness was strong pro C6.

She's bringing out of scope comments . Talking about the fact of those people coming to T.O or Vancouver to invest in properties and leaving them vacant is irrelevant .. I don't see what is the problem of Canadian citizens naturalized or born here taking opportunities abroad ..

She has a reasonable if not exaggerated point - citizens of convenience, likely does not apply to folks on this forum.

Your point was that "people living on social assistance are more native born than first generation immigrants" - the article you quoted indicates that those from western countries are doing well and those from developing countries are considered low-income. If anything this disproves your point.

..And how many of those are permanent residents wanting to get citizenship? I suspect not that many,
Still unfounded.

Hi,

Does anybody know what is the next step in the process? I mean like after this session is done, does the committee meet again to vote or do they just send a recommendation after they have listened to all witnesses? I know if changes happen then it will go to the HoC and so on

Apologizes if this has been covered anywhere in the thread. I tried to look but couldn't find anything about particularly what happens next

Thanks!

what are you talking about ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadians_of_convenience

She's referring to people have a passport so they can enjoy benefits but not pay taxes, live here or contribute.

She's particularly salty !
