Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
For those that are curious about their obligation to enroll, and if there are penalties for not doing so...see this:
https://www.healthcare.gov/exemptions-tool/#/results/details/resident-alien

Basically, it means this:
If you live outside the US but return to the US more than 35 days in any year, you will be mandated to purchase qualified health insurance coverage or pay the tax unless you can prove you qualify for the foreign earned income exclusion.

Another `interesting' article can be found here:

So glad I'm Native American and exempt from this. :)

If you don't mind me asking...

How do you feel about Canada never signing The Jay Treaty?

It seems unfair that a person that is registered to a band in Canada can IMMEDIATELY get a U.S. work permit at a land border AND (later) get permanent resident status in The U.S., but a Native American registered in the U.S., does not get the same rights when entering into Canada.

My grandfather was full-blood Cherokee and I was `mistakenly' hopeful that my blood quantum would have been helpful in my quest for Canadian PR, but...nada!

I am REALLY irritated about it! One of the first things I did when I moved here was email some people about getting Native benefits in Canada, but none of the US tribes are recognised here. Completely not fair! I can't understand why.

Pretty much any American who is a Canadian resident (temporary or permanent) who works in Canada should qualify for the FEIE so they should be fine. I'd say that the folks who are "visiting" Canada to stay with their spouse while waiting for PR need to be more aware of this though.

In any case what another pain for US expats. Rand Paul 2016 please (the only prominent member for the US govt that seems to care about US Expats on these matters).

Ah, but what about those that are in Canada that are still working (remotely) in the U.S.? Is that yet another `fly in the ointment' for those poor souls? LOL!

It appears that even those that are visiting, but have been in Canada for at least 330 days, will also dodge the obligation...even if they're in Canada without status.

As long as I don't have to do it. I was on Medicaid previously and if they base it on my husband's Canadian income ( I'm not working at the moment) since we live together but not in the US, I'd have to pay $538/month :-X :o . I'm not eligible for medicaid as I don't reside in the US now. Not sure how to go about that exactly as I made no money in the last year.
