Just once to get the paper I94. I was then called for secondary maybe twice since. You can be called into secondary for random screening (even with Nexus). It may seem dauting at first, but once you commute regularly it all becomes routine and in general hassle free.

I was in a similar situation in late 2018. You will be fine. You will have a paper I94 stamped with the I797A expiration date the first time you go to the US from Canada. Note that sometimes the officer may not be familiar with AVR; just politely ask to go inside and talk to a supervisor.

NO. Only those deemed "essential". Some workers in my company are able to get a letter. Mostly lab folks and in departments deemed essential. Most of folks even in MI are working from home. In general, I think its best to stay home in these unprecedented times.
