Spouse of H1 commuter crossing into US as a H4

I am thinking its better to let H4 spouse stay in US and H1 holder commute until pandemic is over and consulates open. See any issue with this?

Found cheapest phone plan with Canada Roaming. If anyone tried this already, please reply

Yes, but I would sign up for a voip service and also maintain a Canadian phone number. Some Canadians, in my experience, do not sign up for US calls on their expensive Canadian mobile plans and they wont be able to call your US number

Spouse of H1 commuter crossing into US as a H4

@ybx1250 So, the consulate has to cancel spouse's H4 and give B1/B2 instead. right? Is that easy? I believe we have to prove ties to Canada (as a new PR arrival living in a rental house, not sure what we need to show)

Spouse of H1 commuter crossing into US as a H4

Thanks @harirajmohan . Thought of making use of the pandemic and any changes in office work structure. My company doesn't seem to be ready to open anytime soon. So, at least for the next few month, I wont even have to go to the office. If it does become too difficult and my employer is not...

Spouse of H1 commuter crossing into US as a H4

hi, Planning to settle down at the border on Canadian side but there is no proper community there. Its just a boring place where seniors retire. Thought we can just cross into US on weekends and for shopping etc and consider that as our main community. The US side relatively good. Will the...

Found cheapest phone plan with Canada Roaming. If anyone tried this already, please reply

Not always. If you live close to the border, most of the time you will be on at&t tower. Infact my Canadian sim said i was on roaming. I was surprised. I checked the network and it said it is connected to at&t's tower. And no, i do not intend to stay in Canada full time. I have plans to...

Moving stuff from US to Canada in a UHaul truck

Yes, You need to tell that officer that you will start looking for an apt after finishing your 14 day Quarantine and you have to be in a 14 day Quarantine.. They are pretty strict about that. Cops will come to the address you provided to check if you are there and Ontario Health dept will call...

Moving to Canada PR on H1B checklist/guidelines

A couple of items to add. Others can correct if something is wrong here. * Continue to use your U.S bank accounts (change address to another US address that you have association with, if needed) as it will be difficult to open US bank account once your residence is switched to Canada, if you...

Working for US company in Canada

No, I meant to say from Tax perspective. In my experience, tax is calculated based on where you live but some Windsor- Detroit commuters here say they put Canada address in the paycheck and their Tax gets calculated as per Michigan state. Also, another member here said that our address should...

Working for US company in Canada

By the way, I am in the same boat, looking at similar plans like you. Have you figured out which address to put in paychecks and what affect that will have on H1B? I am assuming you live far away from the border and hence planning in this manner instead of daily commute.

Working for US company in Canada

Come on Monday moring, Monday will be counted in Canada. Leave before 12 am Tuesday night, Tuesday will also be counted in Canada. No of days lost =0. If you come on Monday and leave on Thursday (spending atleast even a few minutes in Canada each day), you will be losing Tuesday and Wednesday...

Question for people working in US but don't live near the border

Hi All, I am planning to convince my US employer to let me work from Canada. I wanted to know what arrangements you guys have made with your employer. Did you guys just update your address to Canadian one in your payroll and taxes are getting deducted as per your employer's location or do you...

Question for Windsor-Detroit commuters - US Payroll

Thanks very much @harirajmohan and @nvap23 @harirajmohan I see that yours is a simple case. Good that everything worked out without much interruption or complication. The fact that your company is also providing Canadian insurance shows that such cases are normal in your company. Mine is a...

Question for Windsor-Detroit commuters - US Payroll

Okay. Thanks very much for the reply @harirajmohan From a H1 perspective, did you have to make any LCA or H1 amendments for change in your residence address to Canada? I believe, before your move, your address was given as your US address in the H1 application?

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

I tried to cross border with intention of adding my days in Canada but the CBSA officer told me unless i can stay in Canada for 14 days, he can not let me in. He said its against the law now. I haven't made my move yet but just wanted to stay in a temp accommodation and come to US everyday. I...
