Keeping Bank Accounts and Investments alive in the US after moving to Canada

I have transferred very limited funds to Canada to help me get settled here. I used BOA Wire Transfer, although there are other options available (such as https://www.knightsbridgefx.com ). I used BOA ATM here initially, you have to let them know through app/website that you are traveling...

Keeping Bank Accounts and Investments alive in the US after moving to Canada

That's good to know. I may not be able to physically go but at least start redirecting the mail if they give me PO box number

Thanks, I will definitely try this and update this thread when I actually do it. As mentioned before, due to border closing I won't be able to go to USPS but hopefully soon

Keeping Bank Accounts and Investments alive in the US after moving to Canada

Does anyone have personal experience who has rented a PO box and crossed border in the past just to get mail?

Keeping Bank Accounts and Investments alive in the US after moving to Canada

Yes I am close to the border however didn't know if it is normal to rent a PO box and cross the border on Visitor Visa (that I fortunately got before Corona). Right now border is closed but I would prefer this method over other mail delivery services. Also I have to find out if banks accept PO...

Keeping Bank Accounts and Investments alive in the US after moving to Canada

I have moved to Canada as an Indian Citizen and Canadian Permanent Resident however haven't moved all the money from the US. I have bank accounts and stock investments. Instead of transferring them over to Canadian Bank and losing a lot through currency exchange rate and fees, I would like to...

    Maintaining US Bank Accounts

Yeah, that's what I would do too but unfortunately I don't have close relative. My friends will eventually move to Canada and the other ones are not that responsible enough to keep the mail secure or separate.

    Maintaining US Bank Accounts

For people who have moved from USA to Canada and are still maintaining their financial accounts (bank, investments) , how do you do so? My main concern is address. Right now, I have set that as my friend's address however I don't want to trouble them with my mails as they will have to keep them...

Working in Buffalo NY on H-1B with commute from Hamilton

I am a permanent resident of Canada and my former US employer is preparing to file my H-1B to work for them. I will not be moving to the US however I will be commuting daily from Hamilton to Buffalo. The employer does not have an office in Buffalo, so they will be renting a business class...

Child Care Benefit for New Immigrant - When should I apply

But the forms says if you are applying in year 2019, then you need to show income for last 3 years i.e. 2018,17 and 16. In my case, I am applying in 2020, so I would need returns on 2019, 18 and 17. Please correct me if I misunderstood.

Child Care Benefit for New Immigrant - When should I apply

I landed in Canada in November 2019 as a permanent resident along with my wife and child with same status. For the Child Care Benefit to receive, you need show income for the 2019, 2018 and 2017. I did not earn any income in Canada in 2019, however I earned income in the US for all these years...

Downtown Toronto without Car or Suburbs with Car

Hmm... wondering if car ownership is an issue due to high insurance costs (like $150 per month)..was trying to avoid that...I understand you can't go everywhere with public transportation... Do youhave a recommendation for a good suburb? Mississauga and Brampton areas are expensive.

Downtown Toronto without Car or Suburbs with Car

I will be staying in Downtown Toronto for a month in AirBNB. I will continue to work for my US employer remotely. I was considering to rent an apartment in the Downtown and not own a car. Is it a better option than staying in suburbs with car ? I have a family with 1 kid that need to go to...

Proof of Identification for G1 Knowledge Test

@Hurlabrick I am staying in AirBNB in the first month. I am also going to get drivers license. Is it ok if I put a PO Box address on my driver's license ? Is it ok if I use Airbnb address? I know they don't check address proof.
