Honestly, I just called to make an inquiry. I have not made any booking and do not intend to do that not until after renting an apartment first in Windsor with a move in date of May 1st, and book my flight in that order. I would wait for another 45 days before making any move. A lot might have changed at that time; just may be.
So, I wouldn't know if the reservation confirmation number could be used in ArriveCan. people who have booked may be in the know.
I think as long as a hotel is classified GAA, and DIRECT booking is allowed, any confirmation number from that hotel would be acceptable. This might just be a loophole anyway. From what I can see so far, the only difference in terms of regular service and three-day quarantine stop is the three meal plan. Ordinarily, the hotel services of these hotels close to the airport include shuttle service, regular cleaning and disinfecting the room, and breakfast. The lunch and dinner made the difference.
As mentioned on the government's website its the hotel's reponsibility to provide a unique rate code ascertaining to the GAA. Single meal plan is not the only difference, for instance the mandatory GAA plan includes the following which are not included in the regular plan : security, transportation, cleaning & disinfecting provisions, food safety, data reporting and maybe a presence of a PHAC inspection offical at the hotel. It's a compliance violation if you are using the regular room service in guise of the GAA.

Just to help settle this. Here is someone's actual experience booking directly with the hotel under a cheaper "quarantine package" but ended up having an issue:

"Went to reception got to the counter immediately, they said that I had the wrong reservation and that they could keep it but I might get penalized by the government. Even though they had just told health Canada at the airport on the phone that my reservation was correct. They said if I didn’t change my reservation to a GAA reservation then they’d have to notify the government so I just switched it and the price went from $384 for 3 nights including meals to $1350 for 3 nights including meals for the exact same room."

Well, I am not saying I want to use the regular room service. However, those services you mentioned are usually provided by some hotels close to an airport even before the COVID-19 stuff. For instance, the provision of transport services, cleaning and disinfection are not just being done. The aspects of food safety and data reporting is what I don't understand. I guess data reporting is what one can do personally using the ArriveCan (correct me if I'm wrong). The PHAC inspection could be done even in any choice location of quarantine. Basically, I don't see any major difference safe for the meal plan. Those additional 'services' are just meant to inflate the price (my personal opinion). I maintain that there is no violation as long as one gets picked up at the airport straight to one's room, makes no contact with anybody pending the result of the test, have the ArriveCAn handy to do a daily report(if required). Again, this is my personal opinion, and I wouldn't make any response on this particular line of conversation again.

Based on the latest development, as reported by @kenziehere, it is crystal clear that the hotels are simply using government's policy to get more profits for the same service

I guess they would still offer the same service but are only using the government's policy to get more profits for the same service. It's well.
This has just proven my thought.

For individuals wanting to land in Toronto, the Holiday Inn at 970 Dixon Road, Rexdale, Toronto, Ontario M9W1J9 appears to make sense cost-wise. I called them just a moment ago, and the price per night for a family of five like mine is $139CAD, including shuttle service from the airport. Only breakfast meal plan, though. Three night is $417CAD with refundable option of not using the three days in case the test result came out earlier. I think this is a good deal.
They are even ready to book for me for late April booking(the 48 hr only booking not an ish here..lol), but I had to tell the individual that I called to make inquiries first.
I called Holiday Inn they are charging 329 CAD per night and it's not refundable even if the results came earlier. Also the food is included in the package. They said it's a standard package called GAA. They might have accidently booked you a normal room.

As he/she posted earlier. It was just an enquiry call. A booking wasn't made by ABmercy&Gr8s

Does anyone know if they are going to remove this 3 day stopover in a hotel in coming weeks. I will be travelling at the end of April.

Are you sure you can use your reservation confirmation number on the ArriveCan app? I am thinking the confirmation number for GAA bookings will be made available to govt so that it gets verified when you enter it on ArriveCan app. If this was the case, then any hotel confirmation number would not of use.
ArriveCan is a half-baked app. It will take any number as your reservation number and display the tick mark at the bottom. If you just want to travel, book any hotel online from the approved list, make sure you pay little extra to be able to cancel the booking even after landing.

My case I did a non-gaa booking at the YYZ Comfort inn for $350 and ArriveCan accepted the booking number. I was able to travel without issues

Still a compliance violation by circumventing around and no guarantee that it will work for everyone else but eventually you will end up booking the GAA plan after being warned at the hotel.

I doubt they would remove the 3-day requirement but if I were you, I would wait at least a week or two before booking hotel.

Has anyone checked the rates for holiday inn for May onwards, it's over $600 a night, and I think that's for one person.
