Fellow applicants,

I'm facing a massive problem and really hope you might help me out with your advice.

I mailed my application for Canadian Citizenship on August 20th 2020. I was given a tracking number from Canada Post.
I didn't think about checking if my application was delivered because I was almost certain they would deliver it. (I know, very silly...)

However, fast forward to today, after almost 4 months, I haven't received any AOR. I also realized that I lost my Canada Post Tracking number for my citizenship application! So I can't even confirm if my application was delivered or not! Meaning I may not even have an application in process. I called CIC and they were utterly useless, blaming everything on Covid. They told me to resend the application with an "Urgent Processing" label on the outside of the package. They also mentioned that it would still take many months to process.

I called Canada Post and asked them to provide me with the tracking number because I lost it, they told me that is impossible and that if I lost the tracking number, that's too bad and there's NOTHING they can do.

My grandmother is very ill with Parkinsons disease and I cannot even go see her during her final days because my passport expired. I am (unfortunately) an Egyptian citizen whose passport had expired in March 2020. I cannot renew it because Egypt is a filthy third world nation with mandatory military service. I cannot renew my passport unless I go to Egypt myself. And if I do go, I'll be trapped in that sick excuse of a country for years working in that pathetic circus act they call a military.

I have a job and a life in Canada that I cannot sacrifice. However, I would very much be broken to watch my grandmother die without being able to say goodbye.

I am currently passportless with no possiblity of renewing it.

I am desperate right now. What do I do? Do I resend a citizenship application and become a december applicant? Do I cross my fingers and hope that my Citizenship Application that I sent back in August made it to Nova Scotia? Do I send a letter asking them for urgent processing?

Please talk to me, I am in a terrible place and can't stop thinking about my grandmother, and this incredibly frustrating application time.

I am stranded in Canada..

Really sucks. Sorry.
Assuming you are a single applicant - While you figure out other options, submit an online citizenship application.

Hi friend, I would submit an ONLINE application and request urgent processing for the reason you stated.

Sorry to hear that.
Unfortunately, you can not do anything until you receive your AOR. August applicants are getting AORs, maybe your turn will come soon.
Also, there is no way to apply online for urgent processing. Even if you get to urgent processing, there will be a waiting period of at least a few months.

Hi,

How can I submit an online Citizenship Application? The only option I see is to mail the application. Do you possibly have a link I can use to try and resubmit my application online?

Thank you,

Thank you,
On this thread. Also, prepare a new copy of your paper application and send it marked "Urgent Processing". You will never be penalized for submitting multiple applications, they will just return the ones which they can't process.

When a CIC agent picks up the file, first thing they scan is your receipt for fee. If your application has been previously entered in to the system, the receipt will have a Zero balance and that's how they know to return that particular application.

Also, I read somewhere in the forum about an applicant who applied under urgent processing and received AOR within a week.

If I were you, I would visit the local Canada Post office with my ID Proof. If they gave you a tracking number, that gets entered into the system on your name you provided on the Envelope. So they should be able to search and provide you with the lost tracking number - I will be surprised if they couldn't. All the best.

You can get a travel document and visit Egypt , it might take only a month to get the travel document or you could request urgent processing to get travel document meanwhile you waiting your citizenship application

Hi,

Thank you,
Good to see so many people providing advice here, however I am curious as to why everyone (incl. CIC call centre - whose advise I would always take with a pinch of salt) is suggesting him to submit another application when he sent a registered mail through Canada Post? What are the odds of Canada Post not delivering or misplacing a registered mail? I know mails get misplaced by carriers, it happens, however what are the odds really?

He sent his application on Aug 20 which means might have been delivered 23-24 approx. There is a 99% chance his application has been delivered and is pending review just like some July and Aug applicants with possible AOR on the way or application being returned for incomplete info.

Brother, Nobody here can surely outline the dynamics of CIC or how they are currently processing applications, but my advice would be to wait a few more days to see if you get AOR along with the rest of the August applicants who are waiting and then if you dont hear anything when all others have got their AOR, try doing an online submission possibly with a LOE stating the details of your 1st application and that you were unable to track it.

Hi Nsharaf,

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. I'm shocked to hear that IRCC wasn't able to help - they were able to acknowledge receipt of my package, even though I didn't get my AOR yet. I know it may feel useless, but try to call them again and if the person isn't helpful, ask to talk to a supervisor - but remember: in stressful situations, try to keep the politeness on the call.

Brazil also has mandatory military service, so I know how it sucks. Have you considered calling the Egyptian embassy to see if they can help you? I think this would be your biggest bet for help, as they are working in Canada and can understand your situation better than anyone at home - I truly think they can guide you better :)

Give it a try and good luck!
