I know of someone that had an employer specific work permit (closed permit) and it expired and he didn’t exit Canada before the expiry date. Being still currently inside Canada, for longer than 90 days (restore status period), can he apply for a new work permit under a new LMIA, or any other pilot programs like the RNIP, AIPP? If not what, other options does he have to restore status?

Thanks for your answers in advance

Since you out of status and past restoration, applying for a new work permit from within Canada is not possible. You would need to leave Canada and apply from outside of Canada.

It's not possible to restore your status from within Canada. You would need to leave Canada to fix status.

In terms of applying for an immigration program, many require you to have valid status in Canada at the time you apply. You would be best to hire and speak with an immigration lawyer about this to confirm what is possible.

Based on your previous posts it is hard to get a picture of your situation. Have you applied for asylum. You also have tobkeep in mind that due to covid and a recession there will be a push to make sure Canadians are really being considered for jobs before giving out LMIA and WP. The processing times are also likely to be long except in industries where employers can show that they are being slowed by lack of workers.

This isn’t my situation. I was Inquiring for a friend. None of My previous posts are connected, they are just different inquiries. But yes, I certainly understand covid 19 changes the landscape significantly for foreign workers. My friend hasn’t applied for Asylum. Thank you for your response
