Hello, I am an international student in Canada and in the future, I am thinking to go through the express entry process. To get more points, I need to get a Canadian degree. Would I get any points for Canadian education if I am doing my studies online because of COVID-19? Thanks.

If it's online just because of Covid-19, you'll still be considered a full-time in-class student . Check the IRCC Covid-19 faq's-this question has been answered there.

Question 5 from the bottom.

That is about PGWP.
I am asking about the points for Canadian Education under Express Entry. Because part-time and online studies don't qualify for it. Only points for diploma will be awarded, but not for Canadian education.

It's a good question, sorry I misread it. Look at it this way, online studies never qualified for PGWP. PGWP is a benefit for students who study in class in Canada.

From the faq on that page, since online during Covid-19 doesn't affect PGWP, and rightly so, since you're forced to take online classes; I don't think it will affect your Canadian education Express Entry points. Please look at my analogy in principle.

Your question hasn't been addressed directly, it's only a matter of time till someone email's them asking for clarification and it will be added to the faq section. These are special times concerning Covid-19, exceptions will be made.

Just focus on studying, you'll be fine.

CIC replied to me like this:
Hi. If your in-class courses are being moved to an online-only format because of COVID-19, this won’t affect your Express Entry eligibility and the CRS points you may claim for your education.

Would you mind sharing the screen shot of their response?

So, if you take degrees that are already online before COVID-19 started, you will not be eligible to claim for the Canadian education, is it?

hi everyone, any update on this? regarding this point:

"you had to be enrolled full time for at least eight months, and have been physically present in Canada for at least eight months"

does this mean I will only be able to get CRS points IF I have completed the program physically in Canada (even if classes are done virtually)? Or, does this mean that I can still get points as long as by the time I lodge my application, I have been physically present in Canada for at least 8 months – either through a combination of study and post graduate work?
