File requires additional verifications

Hello all. I am on my third month of processing. I called the IVR and couldn't get any info on my file (the system couldn't locate it). GCMS notes are delayed as well. So I wrote directly to my VO (Ottawa) and got this response:

Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Please note that your file is currently under review and requires additional verifications. As a result, the assessment period will be outside of our posted processing times.

Unfortunately at this time we are not able to determine when your application will be finalized, but our office will contact you as soon as all verifications are completed, or if any additional information or documents are required.

We appreciate your patience and ask that you keep correspondence with our office to a minimum.

Has anyone received something similar? I am not sure whether it is a standard "leave us alone" mail or there is actually something going on with my file. If so, do I have the legal right to know whats going on and can claim further information?

You can request GCMS notes.

I can't say whether that's a standard form letter or a more customized one, but assume that if they same your file needs additional verifications, it actually does.

Yep, I ordered notes +40 days ago, delayed. The question was more about the legal side of possibilities that we have on our hands. The process is utterly opaque, it takes a lot of effort (and money) to gather all the documentation and it seems to me that they should be obliged to disclose some more information than they do. Thank you, k!

Your legal right is to request GCMS notes. That's about it.

The process is relatively opaque, yes, because of security and criminal screening. They take it rather seriously - even if you know you have nothing in your background.

Hi,

I send a webform at my 6-month mark and got the same response. Got my ATIPS notes, it's said my eligibility has been met, my criminality processing and my security have not started. I was worried that I was in SS, so I think its a just a standard response letter. But when you get your notes you will have a better idea. Update when you received it

Oh, thank you, Diane, that was very useful! I was indeed worried about a SS. I will update once I get my notes, but I am expecting something similar to yours. Sorry to hear that you have already hit the 6-months mark. This randomness is really bad for the process.
