Hey everyone
My girlfriend is Canadian and has sponsored me through family class (common-law) for my PR. As this was done out of country we now need to activate my PR by flying into Canada.
I have my COPR but we aren’t sure if we want to permanently relocate just yet as we both have pretty good jobs and could potentially save a little more money before going back. Basically we need to decide if we chuck them in and relocate right away or just fly into Canada to activate the PR (before the COPR expiry date) and come back to chuck a few more dollars in the bank. I was just hoping someone could give us an idea of what to expect which might help us make up our mind.
As this will be my first time back to Canada with a CORP, do I need to apply for a PRTD before leaving Australia as I don’t have a PR card just yet. There is a watermark on the CORP itself saying “not valid for travel”. As I didn’t have to submit my passport for a visa would I just need to apply for the PRTD or alternatively a eTA to travel to Canada?
If we decide to buy a one way ticket to Canada to permanently relocate, does anyone know if an eTA or PRTD coupled with a CORP will be sufficient evidence to board the plane. I’ve heard stories of people being refused to board because they don’t have a return flight.
When we land, what are the type of things they’ll check for? I assume if we are permanently relocating they’ll process my PR card? Where as if we are just flying in to activate they won’t?
Cheers
Tom
