Hi guys,

I got my ITA just last week. I filled out all the forms and got my document checklist, which didn't consist of much. I claimed 2 jobs which counted towards my Canadian experience under work history section, and the rest under personal history - therefore i only got asked for reference letters from the two i claimed in work history, as well as some other general stuff.

My co-worker has just applied for her PR under CEC with a lawyer, and the lawyer asked her for detailed reference letters from ALL her jobs for the past 10 years (even though she didn't claim them), plus proof of funds in the form of bank statements (although she stated $0 as her funds and she is currently working in Canada, just like I am). As well as her police checks and all her previous engagement with IRCC, like ITA letter, work permit, study permit - whatever she's ever received. Seems like a bit much?

I'm obviously not an expert, but do I REALLY need all this to apply? I'm only being asked for medical, education, letters from 2 jobs and that's it pretty much. No police checks, no proof of funds. I do want to make my application as detailed as possible, though. Just wondering if it's normal to submit all that or if these lawyers are just making sure they're getting their money's worth by overdoing it?

Thanks!

Your friend's lawyer is trying to make sure s/he understands everything about your friend's immigration status in order to provide considered advice. It's called "due diligence" and makes perfect sense for a lawyer to do it, so that there are no surprises where the client blames the lawyer over something the lawyer didn't know. The lawyer may not be submitting all documents to IRCC, they may just be so that the lawyer knows that's going on.

The lawyer did include all the reference letters for all her jobs as well as her proof of funds in the application. She gave me the letters of explanation accompanying those documents which the lawyer attached with her application. Should've specified.

You know the detailed reference letters are necessary for proving work experience against a specific NOC code, right?

I really don't know what you're getting at - if your friend has concerns about her lawyer, she should either talk to her lawyer or come here and explain her concerns and ask for opinions. Lawyer seems to be doing a thorough job, to me.

Well, you clearly missed the point of the thread since I've explained that the co-worker only claimed certain jobs (the ones that give her points), but the lawyer provided reference letters for ALL her jobs for the past 10 years, even though she ONLY got asked to provide documentation for the specific jobs which she claimed in the work history. My question was whether that kind of meticulousness was necessary. I'm sure the lawyer is doing a great job.

Cool, just tell people who are trying to help you that they're being useless.

I'm out. Cheers.
My reply wasn't intended to tell you that you're "useless", but to explain the point of this thread and my question, since you expressed concerns about what "I was getting at". I clarified the information I wanted to find out. Not sure why you're getting defensive. Good luck.
