I have received my PR card and am done the process, woohoo!

Now i am wondering how does it work reentering Canada? Will they have questions i should be prepared for? I give them my US passport and PR card? Has anyone had issues?

I only ask because I have been on temporary resident permits for 7 years and am so used to getting treated a certain way!

As a PR, the chances of getting asked anything significant are quite low. You simply arrive, hand over your passport and PR card (or scan them at the automatic kiosk), and 30 seconds later you're through.

Questions asked if you're coming by car: "Are you carrying any guns, tobacco, or alcohol"

by plane: "Have you declared all your shopping" - or nothing at all.

As long as you are maintaining your Residency Obligations, aren't trying to avoid paying customs duty, and aren't doing anything illegal (obviously) you will have no issues whatsoever

Very easy indeed. Depends on HOW you enter Canada.

If by road, simply hand over your passport together with your PR Card. A couple of normal questions they ask everyone and hey presto, done!

If by air, most Canadian airports that handle international flights now have those automated customs kiosks where you answer both the customs declarations AND scan your PR card. I mention this because as a PR with a PR Card, it is your PR Card that you scan at the kiosk and NOT your passport. You then get your printout, take that and hand that with your passport and PR Card to the CBSA officer.

Thank you so much for the responses, fellas!

That's all good to know, especially the kiosk declaration part.

I wanted to make sure I dont have to carry all of this proof of funds and blah blah blah they sometimes want proof of as a temporary resident!

I am kind of excited for the first time I use my card!

Have yourselves an excellent day.

You are a pr, so nothing more to prove other than your residency for which pr will suffice. Questions asked are those typical for any international arrival

Lol, don't get super excited, as you might not even use it. The first time my partner entered, the CBSA officer swiped the passport, saw PR status in the system and away we went without ever having to produce the PR card.

If your PR card expires, it does not mean you have lost permanent resident status telldunkin.
Not sure if this is a statement or a mistyped question. Anyway if is a question a PR card validity has nothing to do with PR status as such so someone can have an expired PR card and still be a PR. What is important is for someone to maintain their residency obligation of 2 years residence in any 5 year period.

A valid PR card would be required if travelling outside of the country if needing to board a plane back to Canada and a valid card might also be needed occasionally when interacting with some government departments other than that some people live in the country for years with expired cards.

Hahaha oh well. At least it's done and dealt with! Thanks for the pointers and advice the past year, though I know you've been on here a long time!

All the best
