Language test. ? ID issue

hi everyone. Quick question if anyone knows. My husband will be applying for citizenship soon (has 6 yrs in Canada already) . For the language test, the testing center said he needs an unexpired PR card which I find ridiculous. His PR card expired and he didnt renew because he didn’t need it for anything.

Does he really need to renew his PR card in order to do the English test for citizenship? Please share you experiences if you’ve been in this situation.

They require any ID to used for the test to be valid on test day and that includes PR card. Your husband can use travel passport for ID in place of expired PR card.

No. You must have original and exactly the same passport or Permanent Residence Card you used to apply with you on test day. The ID document you will bring on test day should be valid. That’s the problem too. My husbands home country passport is expired lol

So I guess we will have to waste time and money to renew his PR card first. I am checking also to see if we can get letter from his college that his diploma language of instruction was in french , if we can get that quickly he should be fine applying without the language test.

a) you let your ids (passport and pr card are the most crucial identities for landed immigrants) expire voluntarily so the money you are "wasting" is your own fault.
b) if your husband has done his high school in english language than all he needs is his 10th/grade 12th marksheet as a proof of english proficiency

Not crucial documents to be honest. They are travel documents and if one doesn’t travel no need to keep them unexpired. The most crucial documents are drivers license, SIN and health card while living in Canada. All government agencies accept drivers license as ID, citizenship application doesn’t ask for PR card to be unexpired nor the home country passport to be still valid so I see no logic why a language testing facility would ask for unexpired travel document to do a language test in Canada.

Every Canadian resident has a drivers license, SIN and health card. You never know when circumstances change and you have to visit or go back to your home country. Even IRCC urges people to have an up-to-date PR card!

As for the IELTS requirement, if you were aware how criminals have played with the system by using expired ids stolen from people like you, you would understand why they are asking for unexpired ones.
