PCC: What kind of questions are asked at the PSK?

Ok here goes:

1. I have a permanent address in Chennai (both Aadhar and Passport show Chennai address)

2. My current address is in Bangalore (in a PG!) where I've by working for the last four years.

I don't have substantial proof of my current address. I only have one postpaid mobile bill from Airtel (which I will receive at the end of this month), and a rental agreement notarized by Karnataka government.

Also I renewed my passport in August of 2018 (more than a year ago) and police verification was done at that permanent address, succesfully.

My questions are:

1. Where is it recommended to get my PCC from? (I'm inclined to do it in Chennai in the interest of time)

2. Do they ask questions like where I work etc. not sure how to deal in that case ...

3. If they realise I have two different addresses but said I have same current address as permanent address - what is the result?

Personally, I don't know why address is important in checking if you have a background record of possible crimes etc.?!?

Really hoping someone can clear this doubt for me - !

Hi. I'm not sure about all your questions, but i'll help with number 2.
My passport has my permanent address in mumbai. I applied for PCC from PSK in Mumbai. They didn't ask any questions. They took my picture asked me to verify the details. The process involved waiting for a bit but i had my PCC in about an hour.

As for your other questions, here are my thoughts:
If your Permanent address is in chennai, i recommend getting your PCC from chennai. PCC given by PSKs are valid for all of india.
If you are thinking that you need multiple PCCs from bangalore and chennai, that is not the case.

Hope this helps.

1. Get it done from the address on your passport. Remember that once you get your PSK appointment done there would be a physical call to the address you've given by a constable to verify that you live there (it does not matter if you work somewhere else as long as that place can be verified as your residence and you are present there when they call) In some cities instead of coming to your place you receive a phone call from the nearest Police Station asking you to come there for verification along with your address proofs. Getting this done at your permanent address is far easier than getting it done in a place where you're living on rent.

2. They do not ask any questions whatsoever at the PSK. The constable or inspector at the time of verification may ask you stuff like how long have you been staying at the address, what you do etc. If they do simply answering you do some online work from home would not cause any issues.

3. I avoided this situation as when I was asked what I did I said that I was doing contract computer software work online from home(the address on my passport which is my parent's address) and they did not ask any further questions. It would have been very hard to explain that I live in another city and work in a bank and i don't have a proper rent agreement etc etc.

Mr_Chang, I had a few more questions, really hoping you can answer:
1. If they do not give me PCC straightaway, will I know when the police constable is going to come to my permanent address? Will I be told that? And it will generally be a day or two after the PSK appointment, right? (It is like that with passport, I think)
I'm planning to take 2 days leave next week for this (at the end of the week). Wondering if it may fit in that timeframe

2. For how long I've been staying - I will just say till present

3. In general, do you get the impression from them that address is important, do they keep talking about it?

1. Since your last verification was done in Aug 2018 it is almost certain they will not hand you the PCC straightaway and will reverify. You will not be told when the visit will happen or when you will be called to the PS. If you register for the SMS service you will get a message when your file is transferred from the PSK to local PS. In my case they called me one morning 4 days after I got that SMS (I was not in town just for that one day) and the police official said I MUST come by the evening to verify my details at the station. When I requested if I can come tomorrow he said he must send back the file to the PSK today and if I don't verify it by evening he will send a negative report. Thankfully I'm an army brat and we got a senior officer from the local base to call the local SP and asked them to wait one day for me to visit the station. I know that's not strictly by the book but sadly the process itself is quite flawed. The next day I visited the station at 8 am, they looked at my original passport and my dad's latest electricity bill, asked me what I did and then stamped and signed my file and said I'll have to go collect the PCC from PSK in a day or 2, I had registered for the SMS service.

My suggestion is to take atleast 1 week off, get a monday PSK appointment and stay at home on leave or Work from Home for that week. If that's not possible then be ready to take a flight at immediate notice from bangalore to chennai (thankfully in your case both are metros with flights between them every hour or so, my case was much worse)

2. Since you/your parents originally moved into the house till present

3. No, unless you've stayed at your current address(the one you submit on your forms) for less than 2 years they won't ask any more questions.

----------------------
PS: the best case scenario is when your passport has been recently issued. I faced all this when I got my PCC done the first time (for some other visa process in Jan'18). During my Canada process my new passport had been issued less than 3 months before I applied for my PCC and I got the PCC on my first visit to the PSK without any hasstles

Guys, got my PCC straightaway! As a reminder: I had applied at my place of permanent address (and have different present & permanent addresses). Also, my police verification was done little over a year ago.

@navinball's prediction turned out to be right

Congratulations. I was about to share my views on that but you already got it.
How long it took you? I received it in 15 minutes. I had case similar to yours.

Thanks! It took me much longer - but perhaps this was because it was a very crowded location. Took me around 2 hours - to go from reception to counter A, then counter B and then Counter C. If there was no crowd, it would have taken half an hour or so.
