We are a family of 3:

- Husband - Canadian, born in Canada.

- Wife (me) - Mexican, Permanent Resident in Canada because of family sponsorship from my husband

- Son - 2yo - Mexican, Australian and Polish passport. Currently in Canada with us, but no status in Canada. He entered in Canada in September 2018 with an eTA (allowed for 6 months) and now it's obviously expired. We applied for proof of Canadian citizenship for him, but the application is unresolved, it has been sent to the Program Support Unit, and we don't know when they will process it. We have already asked for emergency processing and had no reply.

I want to go back to Mexico to visit my family, but I can't take my son, because I am worried of how he will re-enter. My family is missing out on his childhood. I wonder what can I do to travel with my son, or if we go out of the country they could deny re-entry. Or if I could apply for an eTA extension.

What would you recommend? Thanks!

Leave and go for your trip. IMO they will allow a 2 year old back in with no issues.

Think the Canadian government is going to wonder why you have filed for 4 passports for a 4 year old.
I would be surprised too. And then family missing on his childhood when he's barely here for 6 months that too with his parents story doesn't make sense to me tbh.

Shouldve thought about family missing out on his childhood when you didn't extend his stay and didn't make everything legal

The child has been here for a year. OP wants her family to know her child. I'm not sure why you think that doesn't make sense. I would feel the same way if I lived abroad.

I agree with scylla. Your child is a Canadian citizen, simply without the proof, and CBSA is not going to refuse entry. Carry proof of the Certificate of Citizenship app and copies of his and his father's birth certificates.

Technically, the child shouldn't be able to fly without a Canadian passport but if the eTA is still valid for his foreign passport, it won't be an issue.
