BOWP Tracker

Applied for BOWP via paper on July 17th (that's when it was posted to Edmonton from Calgary) after receiving AoR for PR application back in June. Expecting to hear news of PR results by Nov 16th.

However, I haven't heard anything regarding my BOWP application and my IEC work permit expires August 24th. I am worried I have filled something out on my BOWP application incorrectly (like just today I read BOWP can only be for 6 months or more, and I applied for mine to be 3 months thinking I'd only need it until Nov 16th) and I am unable to link my paper BOWP application to my IRCC account meaning I can't find its status anywhere or even my application number.

I am changing job & moving Province just before my IEC work permit expires too. My new employer (I have worked for them in the past) and I are both counting on Implied Status and then BOWP to get me through until I get confirmation of my PR status.

Should I just apply for another BOWP online through my IRCC account? Or should I apply for a Job Specific Work Permit with my new job?

Many thanks for any advice.

EDIT: I fear my original BOWP may have been lost in the mail (?) so maybe it just safer to apply for a second BOWP now while my current work permit is still valid?
Paper based BOWP takes 120 days referring to CIC update on
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html
note: select "Temporary residence" in the first field and "work permit extension" in the second field

So, people usually hear nothing about BOWP until it is approved.

If 3 months is the only mistake you have, I think it's better to call CIC and inform if any thing you can do. I think applying for another BOWP is not a good idea + you will restart the counter

Thank you for your reply. I tried calling them today but I haven't been given an application number yet and the automatic phone dialogue won't let me proceed without one. Is there any way to talk to an IRCC representative without an application number?

I don't mind restarting the counter by submitting another BOWP. I think I would prefer having the peace of mind knowing that I have a BOWP application online that I can see the status of for sure. Plus the longer the counter is the longer I have Implied Status. I won't be able to apply for another BOWP once my current permit expires so I will need to make a decision very soon.

EDIT: Why I think submitting a second BOWP is a good idea:

Note: If a second application for extension is submitted after the first application and the decision rendered on the firstapplication was
  • approved, then the new status applies.
  • refused, and the original permit was still valid when the second application was received, then the applicant maintains their implied status until a decision is rendered on the second application, and the applicant is out of status as of the date of refusal on the second application.
  • refused, and the original permit was expired when the second application was sent, then the applicant does not have implied status and is considered out of status. (As the applicant’s original permit was expired, they must apply for restoration. The second application was missing restoration fees and would be returned to the applicant for being incomplete)
  • rejected for incompleteness, then the application is returned to the applicant. The application is considered to have never been received, no implied status is granted, and the applicant will be considered in status until the original temporary resident document expires.

Ok, I think you have obvious reasons. Also, you can consult an expert.

Hi guys, I applied in April 26, and didn't get anything yet. I called CIC today and they told me that it still in the queue, so I'm wondering if someone applied after 25 and received his BOWP????
