I recently submitted a police certificate from South Korea but had it refused by CIC reasoning it is not an "acceptable version". According to cic it is possible to apply outside of South Korea by applying through my nearest South Korean embassy or consulate, which I did. I provided the detailed information concerning "entire record, including Criminal Records (including lapsed criminal sentences), and investigation records", however the embassy didn't seem to really care about that, replying that the "Background Check (Criminal Records) Certificate is all they can help me with. I hoped for the best, but as feared did not satisfy CIC. I don't know what to do at this point. I have no one that can help me in South Korea, which is the only other alternative that I know of.
What should I do??

I am literally in the same situation RIGHT NOW!!! Have you figured it out? We went through the Embassy in Singapore (while we lived there) and they told us that the Criminal Record Check they provided us with was all they could get. I have a few friends in Seoul to ask but I feel pretty uncomfortable doing so!!!

Hi there, right now I'm in the same situation. I studied in Korea for 1 year about 10 years ago. I'm in Canada and don't have any friends in Korea. CIC just informed me the police certificate I provided is not the right one. Can you please let me know what you did to solve this problem? This is too frustrating after waiting 16 months for my application:(
Thank you!!!

My husband also has the wrong police record check :-( Does anyone happen to have a copy of the forms that you needed. I do have some friends in Korea that I can see if they can assist us (would need the application form and the power of attorney form). Thanks

ANY information you can provide would be greatly appreciated :)

Anyone have any success getting this outside of Korea? The one we have has been rejected.
Even I'm living in Korea right now but it doesn't work to me. I tried many ways on December 2019 to get it but it didn't work, even I asked my Korean friends to help anyway but they refused to issue Criminal (Investigation) Records Check Reply (범죄· 수사경력 회보서) because of recent changes to the Personal Information Protection Act. They just accepted to issue Background Check (Criminal Records) Certificate (신원조사(범죄경력)증명서). And they explain that police officers can search records for Korean citizen, but they cannot search records for foreigners.
