Hello Omofar
Just got to know about this forum after I was refused my study permit on the basis that they were not convinced I will leave Canada after my study.
Can I defer my admission and two, what are my chances of being given visa when I reapply.
Hello,

When did you apply and when did they send you a decision ?

Applied online on June 10
Medical Passed on June 11-Upfront
Biometric done on June 18
Biometric Correspondence Letter on July 8
Application refused on July 10

I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of
your stay based on your personnal assets and financial
status

I paid one year tuition to Concordia University in Montreal.
Used my uncle as co-sponsor for tuition and flight expenses
about 37k in account after one year tuition

I had 30k in my personal account for living expenses.
I am expat in Uganda and I am paid cash USD and local
currency to the account in Ghana. I didn't include my salary
account. I only included my savings account which is a
USD account.

I included pay slips of my bank salary and out station of
allowance I earn as an expat.

Travl history is descent, currently have B1/B2 visa
I have also being to the US on J1 visa.
Schengen Visa in 2012.

Please advise me on the forward.

Thanks mates

Yhello Sorry to hear about this. Sometimes the VOs do not really care, they just do as they wish. I will suggest you defer your offer and request for the GCMS/CAIPS notes. So you can analyse where you may have missed it in the application and then address the issues.

Dear Omofar,

Hello Omofar,
I am 27 and planning to go to Canada for my masters. I am currently applying to schools. I started my current job at a commercial bank immediately after Nysc and I intend to take a study leave to prove that my job would be waiting for me. My brother who is my sponsor has a good job in the US and would be giving me his statements and shares certificates ... I have about 2.5m saved. Please what are my chances.

Hello Tandy1992,

I hope well. Thanks for visiting this thread. I humbly refer you to the self assesment GIS article I made here, it should be on page 39 of this thread or so. It will really help you. Furthermore, I cannot say what your chances are as I do not work for the embassy. We seen people here who appear to have a good chance on paper, but they still get refused. The truth is I can never really know your chances as I do not really know the full picture.

I wish you all the best.

Hi Ace_

Congratulations on securing a funded masters program into McMaster, that is a great achievement. Well done! Which University did you graduate from?

1. You will still need to provide bank statements to show that you can support yourself for both tuition and living costs for a year. I know it sounds ridiculous, but you still need to do it, or else you will not get the permit.

2. Yes, please get the police report and upload it to the 'client information' section of the online application.

3. Well depends. If there is time, go and try to get a new passport asap, the Canadian embassy will not issue you a TRV beyond the limit of your passport. From what I hear, those working at the Nigerian embassy in Ottawa are very unprofessional, it is easier to deal with immigration in Nigeria than when you leave the country. If you can, try to get a new passport before you apply, it save you the hassle of having to renew your passport and also having to extend your TRV.

4. Finally, there are two things a. TRV- Temporary Resident Visa, this is what will be issued to you in Nigeria by the embassy, it cannot go beyond the validity of your passport. b. Study Permit- This is usually issued at the port of entry, that is when you get to Toronto International airport. I am not certain, but I think your study permit is issued based on your LOA not your passport validity. Please do not take my word for it, try renew the passport if you can before application.

All the best.

Let's know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply bro. That was honestly one of my fears as I honestly don’t have that amount; hence why I applied for a full research scholarship. Also got an offer from UBC with a partial scholarship but didn’t go through with it for this exact reason.

I think my best bet might be to supplement with my mum as a sponsor and she’s got around $6000 which should be enough for travel expenses n dat. Dyou reckon my application stands a good chance with this?

Also would I need a letter of sponsorship from her or no need for that?

Thanks for the advice in regards to passport renewal. I’d go ahead with that before my application.

Cheers

I am 22years,I was offered an admission to study at BU,MB for the September intake but it is was specify on my admission letter that I can either resume for the September2019 or Jan,2020.

Because of my sponsor(my elder sister who now bears another surname because she is married) wasn’t around till June. I submitted my application on June 10,I go a biometric correspondence letter on June 12 then on 13 it was updated with my photocopy of my passport,so I had submitted my application with the following documents ;

* Admission letter from my school
*Application form from IRCC
*copy of my international passport
*scanned copy of my photograph
*Proof of financial status (bank statement from my sister which has over 22m)with a letter of sponsorship but I don’t know maybe it was because of the surname this was one of the reason I was refused
*family consent form
*Then my letter of explanation ,this was the 2nd reason my visa was refused that I didn’t convince the officer too well that I will return to my country after my studies

I got this refusal correspondence letter on July 10 and I had written to my school that I don’t think I can resume for September but January but already I had paid advance for my accommodation.

Please with the letter of explanation and financial status,I really need your advice.i have a landed property from my dad will this be of help and how can I convince the IRCC officer that the sponsor is my sister

When you get a refusal you have 2 options

1. Re-apply right away
2. Order GCMS, check the details of refusal, fix it and then reapply
2nd one increases the probability
