Hi Folks,

I just signed up to get insight into the spousal sponsorship program. I have reading a lot on this topic and I got a few questions.

I got married last month in Australia. My wife is originally from New Zealand but currently resides in Australia. I was wondering as a Canadian citizen currently living in Canada:

1) Would I need to fill out Outland vs Inland application?
2) What kind of evidences do I need to support my application?
3) For me to be approved as a sponsor, the application has a section where my wife will need to fill out. How will that be possible since she is not in Canada? Should I fill my section and send her the document so that she can fill and sign her part as well and then send the completed document to CIC? How does it work?
4) Since my martial status changed, if I want to report that to CRA, they need a section that my wife would need to fill out. Is there a way I can inform CRA my status change?

Sorry if my questions have been answered several times. I just need to iron out some of the confusions regarding my application.

Thanks.

1. If your wife plans to continue living in Australia, you will be applying through the outland stream (spouse living outside Canada). If she comes to Canada on ETA and decides to continue living there, you can apply via the inland stream or the Outland stream (Spouse living in Canada). Totally up to you.
2. Use the link to check relevant forms fr spousal sponsorship. It covers everything including evidences of supporting the application
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/spouse.asp
3. Get your wife to fill out and sign all the forms first, courier it to you and then you fill out and sign your sections. You can then courier it to IRCC yourself.
4. You can call Call CRA or do it online for changing marital status. My Canadian wife did it without hassles and I did not need to fill out anything.

My wife plans to stay in Australia till her sponsorship/PR application is approved. She will only join me here when she feels that she can be legally permitted to work and live in Canada without going through the hassle of work permit etc. Is there any legally issued documents required by CIC from me as a sponsor or my wife? Did you wife need to send a marriage certificate to the CIC to prove the marriage if it happened outside Canada?

Yes - you need certainly legally issued documents.

Yes - you certainly need to send a marriage certificate.

You really need to dedicate time to reading through the requirements on the IRCC since there's quite a bit of paperwork required.

Of course as a New Zealand citizen if 35 or under she could apply for the IEC program and get a 23 month open work permit and be in Canada waiting on spouse sponsorship processing. The IEC program is not that complicated to apply for and would have no impact on any PR application.

Still apply through the Outland route for PR sponsorship though as that provides more flexibility to leave the country for travel whereas inland can be a bit more restrictive if needing to travel
