Hi
I'm applying for study permit after getting through a PG course in York University. Also applying for husband's open work permit along with my visa. We do not have a marriage certificate but have other documents that we can show:
- Aadhar card has us listed as spouses on the same address
- We have a joint bank account
- We have a joint property
- Our child's passport has us listed as parents (but our passports dont have spouse details on them)
Is this sufficient proof of marriage?

We have applied for a marriage certificate but that will take about a month to arrive. If it does not come on time, our other option is for my husband to go on a tourist visa and then apply for a work permit from Canada.

Any help please?

Your husband can apply as a common-law partner

Right now you don't have proof that you are married, you can apply as common-law partners as you have lived together for more than 12 months together.

In India there the concept of common law marriage is not legally defined and is mostly recognized through various court orders over the years.

In India, even if you have a religious marriage, they will issue you a receipt which is taken as a proof of marriage, but you do have to register the marriage after being married. In case of a non-religious marriage you register it and you should get a certificate. Don't know what's the OP's case, but they have no proof they are a spouse.

Don't know what is the case with OP here, they should be having some proof of marriage.

My wife and I are in common law... we had to get a JP to sign a form provided as proof of common law relations... plus we had to show other documents we are living together. Bank Statement, car, house any other applicable.
