HI My wife started her inland PR application at the end of march . when we applied we sent in the forms for the open work permit . we got the paperwork for the work permit sent back to us a couple weeks ago , apparently we did not pay an extra $100 fee . we paid the fee and send the work permit stuff back to Edmonton the same day we received it . we are now waiting :)

My wife found a job posting in our town the other day , for a job she is qualified for and thinks she might like to do . She wants to apply for it , before it is filled . but she does not have her open work permit yet .
I know she can't accept work , or work before she receives her work permit , which we hope will be in in the next month or so , but can she apply for work and start looking for work before her work permit arrives ?
if she starts looking for work before her permit arrives will this cause any problems with her PR . She knows she cant start working before the permit arrives , but she thinks the recruitment process may take a couple months and she would like to get a jump on things .

My partner came to Canada as a visitor and looked for jobs until he found one. He worked it out with the employer that he would start the day after he activated his working holiday visa... so he flagpoled the border and re-entered as a worker. The reason he was looking for jobs as a visitor was so that he could maximize the one year that a WHV is valid for (once it is activated).

Nothing illegal for looking. My husband did the same and had an offer waiting for him for when he receives his work permit.

Was your wife's previous status still valid when the OWP was returned?

yes we just sent in the renewal of her visitors visa the other day , we were advised to keep it upto date , she still has 2 months on that , and we applied for the 1year extension for her visitors visa . hopefully by then her PR will be approved , or atleast her OWP .

You could surely give it a shot.
It wouldn't harm you if you're just looking.

I originally came with a work & holiday open work permit that still had restrictions because I didn't do the medical at that point. I applied to a job that I later found out couldn't take because of the restrictions. I explained to the employer that I was in the process of obtaining PR and getting rid of the restrictions. I did well in the first interviews, so he was still interested and told me to get back in touch when I got my PR.

So you could surely try and apply, if the employer thinks she is an awesome fit they might wait for her until she has the work permit.
