Hi All,

I just got my passport and I really want to migrate to Canada. What is the first step to process my application? By the way, I am CPA here in the Philippines with 4 years experience as an external auditor. Will I be able to get a job that is related to my profession upon moving to Canada?

Thank you and God bless!

The first step is to research Canada's immigration programs. I would recommend that you start by researching the Express Entry immigration program. This is a points-based program where those with the most points are selected for PR. Right now you need to have 450+ points to be picked out of the pool. If you do not have enough points for Express Entry, you will need to look into the Provincial Nominee Programs.

If you passed a board exam to get a license to be a CPA in the Philippines, you should expect to do it again in Canada before you can get to work in the same profession.

Some PNPs, as scylla explained above, require that you are regulated or starting the initial steps for regulation, before you can apply.

Hi Bellaluna, thank you for this. While waiting or pursuing to get a license in Canada, can I apply for other jobs like bank teller, accounting clerk, etc.?

You certainly can. However until you have permanent residency, it's extremely unlikely any of these employers will consider you as a candidate for their roles.

Yes you can work in any position or industry that doesn’t require licensing when you have PR status.
