Hello! I have just been accepted to a University in Canada. While filling the form I came across this question - have you ever applied to enter or remain in canada... and have a query.
My parents had applied for PR for Canada for our entire family. We had received our status, and had traveled to Canada in 2006. Due to personal reasons we could only stay for 4 days and returned back to our country. We never pursued that further, and thus our PR status expired in 2011.
Do I need to mention this in my application form? Please help!

So have you or your family actually renounced your PR status formally or have just your PR cards expired. PR status never expires and can only be renounced or revoked so if neither applies you will need to take action to renounce before applying for a study permit or TRV.

We spoke to a couple of lawyers here, and they advised that there was no need for that since its been really longer. Who can advise me with the correct information?

Your lawyers are wrong. Unless you have explicitly renounced PR you still have it subject to a residency obligation determination.

Alright. And is there a possibility for me to activate the PR status for myself now that I have turned 18?

You need a reason why you've not been able to meet your residency obligations. A minor removed from Canada by parents is generally a start to a reason.

Then you need to either get to a border or apply for a PRTD. If you're denied, you can then appeal based on humanitarian or compassionate grounds. But this is complex and really needs professional advice.

Apply for a PRTD based on H&C grounds of being removed as a child. At 18 years old, you have a chance, though not too high because you didn't actually live in Canada. Do this ASAP, as you will need time to apply for a study permit if refused.
