Hi all,
I have been in Canada for more than a year now and I'm thinking about applying for PR through express entry. My wife is on an open work permit and I'm a graduate student. My question is, can I apply for a PR through express entry separately? My score with my wife is about 430 and without her is 450 because she's working on her IELTS and she'll need sometime. Again, we are both in Canada. Any advice?

Cheers,
ElStu

Hi ELStu,

Is your wife OWP tied to your student status? I have always read that applying separately will result in longer times to have your wife's PR status, and I dont know if things could be complicated when she is applying for PR, given they can see you initially stated no one was joining you. In my experience, since how easy the process is varies by IRCC agent, I tried to minimize potential issues. Also, depending on your province and field, I believe you could apply as a PNP and get the extra points that guarantee an ITA, or graduate, get work experience through your PGWP, apply through CEC and have the extra points from your Canadian degree.

Yeah, it looks like what you said is the best thing to do. Doing it separately will raise a lot of questions that I don't need. I think PNP is the best option to increase the points. Thanks!
