traveling from karachi,pakistan - carry funds

We are 2 , so one can carry max. 5000 USD / 7044 CAD as there is a limit in karachi airport. How one can carry the other funds , i heard demand draft but the banks are saying that we will make demand draft in CAD only if you have a CAD account.

What is the other method ppl are using while doing immigration/landing? also advise which company is doing the demand draft procedure. The company in karachi walstreet is saying that there are a lot of compalains that in Canada the bank draft we are making are not getting encashed due to various reasons so there is a doubt if we make it for you it will work or not.

have you tried dollar east company ?

Try traveller cheques if draft is an issue, try posting in the Pakistan thread to see what people are doing.

Also carry a bank statement if u can't take it all, explain to immigration that due to limits imposed by Pak Govt it is not possible to bring all the landing funds together and that you'll transfer via bank AFTER you open Canadian bank account after arrival in Canada.
Try to carry max limit for each person, so if you're 2 people, carry 2 x 5k USD and the rest either later, or via traveller cheques, etc

facing the same issue. I have made CAD DD $1500 in october which was cashed successfully. I dont know why they told u this, they made this DD from Soneri Bank..

my issue is solved , landed now . I made DD from Pak qatar and they made from Habib Metropolitan bank .

One thing i will advise for ppl coming to canada from pakistan and who are carrying heavy amounts. If you make DD they will charge you an extra ruppes for each dollar e.g. lets say the currect exchange rate is 77 but they will charge you 78 as exchange rate , so you are taking 20K CAD as DD then you end up giving the exchange company 20 thousand ruppes + service charge for DD ( 1500 or 2500 ) .

A better option will be to go to habib bank and then open a CAD account yourself ( show them the visa and they will open ) , deposit money into it and then make a demand draft of your own account , this way they will only be charging you the service fees i.e. 1500 or 2500 . And you can later use that CAD account in future when you send money to homecountry .

are you sure HBL will make CAD account? as per SBP rule, banks are allowed to make USD, JPN YEN, GBP accounts only..

I asked pak qatar to make DD , its near nursery bus stop . they took money from me and gave me a draft of Habib Canadian Bank and it says Habib Metropolitan bank there too. Pak qatar exchange company ppl told me that they have account in habib metropolitan bank and thats why the name would be there and Habib canadian bank is here in toronto . No where on the draft it was mentioned pak qatar .

Note : habib metropolitan is different than HBL . As per my knowledge DD can be made in any currency but you need to have that kind of account for that e.g. If you want to make a demand draft from bank directly of CAD then you must have a CAD bank account from there.

I think this can save some money

But as per SBP rules an individual can only hold accounts in USD, GBP, JPN YEN

They are not allowed to open CAD$ accounts to individuals that is why we have to go to money exchanger.

In how many days did Pak Qatar made you the DD?

I am in same situation and wondering what's the solution. I visited standard chartered, ABL,HBL and askari bank. I have "current" account on pkr in all these and they said they can't issue traveller cheque or bank draft in canadian dollars. Also, askari bank told me that can do it, but I have to open US dollar account first and then I can have US $ bank draft. However, i need it in canadian dollar.

Can anyone please guide or help.
