Hi All,

I had my landing interview last week, and I'd like to just leave here my experience so people who have been called for it can see and have some reference.
First of all, to know if it is a landing interview or not, it is mentioned in the letter (by email - pdf) you receive from IRCC. Mine was like this:

"In order to grant you permanent residence, you must provide us with satisfactory original identity documents. All
applicants must provide their original valid passport at the landing interview."

As you can see, it mentions "landing interview".
I'm pointing it out because I hadn't noticed it at first when I got it.

Anyway, I went to the location and, as I got in, I was asked to show the letter I received for interview request. SO PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU PRINT IT AND TAKE IT WITH YOU. I was also asked for the photograph they asked for in the letter, as well as my passport.
One thing here that I'd like to point out is that there were people not only arriving LATE but also WITHOUT PICTURE, which is clearly mentioned in the letter, then they had to go out run around and get it done in some place nearby. Honestly, the officers are very nice and get out of their way to help, but I think it is just simple common sense for the applicants to be well prepared for something SO IMPORTANT in our lives.

Then I sat down and, when the time came, one officer came to the waiting room and read out loud the names with apppointment for the same time as me, to check if everyone was there. Then she told us we were getting our PR`s on the spot, and that she would call one by one to confirm some information/interview.

Now, please note that the interview is not anything scary as one might think. It might not even qulify as interview, because the office simply confirms is all your info are correct, and asks three questions such as if you have commited any crime in Canada, and if you have been asked to leave the country.

Thank you check all the info in the paper, and sign. The officer also signs and stamps, as well as stamps your passport, and says "congratulations". Please note that the paper you get is the PR CONFIRMATION and it says on it: "Not valid for travel", and the PR card is sent to you by email in 4 or 5 weeks. Just one thing is that this paper, even though it says it is not valid for travel, it can be used to go to the US through road border.

Anyways, here just my experience, because I was looking for info on this after I was asked to go for interview, and would be nice to have seen one more detailed post like this on the topic. Good to you all and don't overwhelm yourself over this at all.
Cheers!

Hi,

Thank you so much for your info provided! May I know how long does it take for your cic online to update after landing interview? I have done my landing interview May 1st (yesterday) but my cic online is still showing that my application is in process. Should I worried about that?

Congrats!!

If all goes well, they will issue you a CoPR and do the formal landing (signing CoPR paper) at the same time. The one-entry counterfoil (stamped visa) is really for Outland applicants to travel to Canada and do the landing. Since our landing is already in Canada, they will NOT stamp your passport at all. They will only cancel and cross out all your existing Canadian visas on your passport.

Note that once you complete landing, you can NOT go out of Canada until you receive your pr card since CoPR is not valid for travel. Now if your travel plan is within Canada, you’d be fine. Otherwise let me know and I can give u some further explanation.

Happy landing!
Hello,
Thank you for the information. Can we travel by road to US without the PR card but with formal landing paper? I know we cannot fly but heard that we can travel by road.
Any leads will be appreciated!
Thank You

Hi

I was wondering if you can help me with one of the question I have. I also have an interview on May 24, 2019 in same office as it was for yours. Will they keep your passport or return than and there itself.

Location: Etobicoke, ON

My timeline is at the very end of this post.

My partner and I arrived in the office 10 minutes before our interview time. We checked in with the receptionist, were greeted with “Congratulations” and given a number in queue :)

There were about 20 windows and were all open. The room was packed with people waiting. Luckily there was a TV with live World Cup lol. We waited about 30 minutes until our number was called.

We were met with a lovely lady. She requested our interview invitation letter and passport. We spent quite sometime confirming our first day of entry and last day of entry to Canada. Apparently the officers who processed our application entered wrong dates for both of us :) That may explain the transfer to Vancouver office and the double ghost updates… but the lady whom we met with was patient and corrected them for us. This process took longer than normal because the CBSA officer did not stamp my passport at my latest entry back to Canada and the stamp of my initial entry was on an old passport that I did not bring. She was able to verify these information on her side so in the end everything was sorted out.

She further asked how we met each other and other casual questions re cooking etc. I am seriously not sure whether this was for verifying our relationship or out of her pure curiosity. After all, she was very conversational throughout our interview who really wanted to get to know us better. She even told some of her personal stories :)

Then we were asked some statutory questions: are there any dependents of ours that were not listed on the application; did either of us commit any crime or served any sentences in and outside of Canada.

She then went to the back room for about 5 minutes and came back with the printed CoPR. She glued our picture to her CoPR copy, asked us to initial a couple statements, and finally we all signed on the CoPR. At this time, she officially congratulated us for being a Permanent Resident of Canada as of today, and advised us that: PR card will arrive in our mailbox within 8-10 weeks; we have residency obligations to fulfill as PR; we need to update our SIN number (usually you could update at the Service Canada in the same building, but since our interview was on a Saturday, Service Canada was closed); we should apply provincial health care coverage on Monday and advised me to call a number to let the province know that I am PR now so they can update my existing coverage.

I asked her whether they always do landing interviews on Saturdays. She told me that this office does landing interviews Mon-Sat with all windows open (full capacity) and still have backlogs… So the IRCC agents are really trying their best to process as many applications as possible. Please be patient, understanding, and appreciative. I trust everyone will get their PR in due time.

For those who are waiting for your ITA, PPR, CoPR, wish you a speedy processing. For those who already received approvals, wish you a bright and happy life in Canada!

Cheers,

Hi,
I have a query.
In our case, only the dependent has received the PPR request as the dependent is in another country while the primary applicant is in Canada on a work permit and hasn't received any PPR request.
I understand from other forums that this usually happens for inland and CEC applicants and the PA will receive a landing interview shortly.
The issue is, the PA is shortly in India for a visit and we haven't notified IRCC as it only a short trip. If he receives an email for interview is there an option to reschedule the interview till he lands back in Canada or is it fixed?

Hello,

Pls, I received a PPR mail for my wife - who is in Nigeria, on Friday, May 17, but I wasn't instructed on where I (the Primary Applicant) should submit my passport too.

I am worried because my wife was given 15 days to submit and she can only submit when I have attained my CoPR status.

I do not know where to go from here.

Kindly help Fellazzz.

Hi Friends,
I really need advice.
I am currently in Canada while my Dependents (spouse and child) are back in India. Today I got a landing interview call and it is mentioned as
"Please bring Your in-Canada dependent(s), only if you have included them in your permanent residence application"

There is no mention of out-Canada dependents.So...
1. What will happen for my Dependents?
2. Will I get separate email for their PPR request?
3. Should I go to the interview alone or should I send a mail to CIC asking to explain?

Ideally, you should get a PPR in your account requesting your dependants to submit passports - ONLY IF YOU INCLUDED THEM IN YOUR APPLICATION.

How far away is your landing Interview, you can reply to the email for the landing interview explaining your situation, raise a WebForm or call CIC.
