Hi Guys,

Need your suggestion for the situation I am in. I am 30 years old male having a Govt. job in India earning around 40k p.m and unmarried. Have more than 10 years of experience and even worked in UK for a year or so. Took a drastic pay cut for the govt. job. Now, I am really dissatisfied with the job and want to move out of the country. I am thinking of pursuing Btech - TM from NAIT or any other two year diploma. Do u think it would be worth the effort?Or I am giving up too much and its too late?

Please advise.
List your order of priorities. You are not happy with your current job.
Option 1 : Look for another job within your department.
Option 2 : Look for job in private companies .
Option 3 : Move to another city .
Option 4 : Research about your skills and the jobs that is available in Canada .Evaluate if you want to move outside the country .
Now decide on what you want to do. Only you know what you want and what skills you have .

Canada alone will not solve anyone's problems. It is NOT the place where milk and honey flows..but it is much better than many cities and countries on this planet.

Thats true Canada wont solve anyone’s problem but I considered Canada cos its still open for immigration. Getting education from a Canadian College has a high probability of getting a PR and citizenship eventually.

Yes, it is easier to immigrate to Canada than to the US, or Germany or France. However, immigrating to a new country is not something that you do lightly. You need to think about why you want to immigrate.

It will not be easy for you since you will essentially be starting from scratch in Canada. You will be competing with much younger people for entry level jobs if you do a Btech. Your experience and skills are not likely to count for much - that's just how it is, unfortunately.

That's not to say that it's impossible, or that you are doomed to fail if you come here. Just do your research and be prepared to struggle for a few years while you get accustomed to a new country. Only you know your own skills and your ability to be successful in the face of a challenge.

I am confused about my decision. Me & my wife both having Government Job in India, having Rs.80,000/- per month family income. Also have PR in Canada. We have 4 year old daughter. According to facts seen, that future in Canada secure for children. It’s really tough for me to choose the right one (INDIA or CANADA). Please suggest me expert advice, what is best for me &my family.
Right now, we both are 32 and have Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic & Electrical Engineering.

This is really a precarious situation for you. Let me sort it out for you.

Canada is a country full of opportunities and has a better lifestyle than India. Under Canada PR visa norms it provides various benefits to for you on individualistic basis plus your family as well. They treat you as the citizens of the country not the immigrants.

As you said, you have a 4 year old daughter, the Canadian government provides free education for her. This is the major expense you have as a parent in India. Moreover you'll be provided with social benefits, free healthcare facilities, better standard of living etc.

All in all, it would be good deal to live in Canada when it has more to offer with regards to individual and family.

Though I understand you have a government job in India, it won't fetch much sanguine results as compared to Canadian scenario where you have much to spend on many other things (and yourself off course) and main things are taken care of by the government. I would suggest to give a shot at Canada.

What I find surprising that people who themselves have Canadian PR are suggesting others to stay back in India :)

I feel people who want to come should come, even if they fail there next generation will be in very good position. Also , later in there life they will not regret that they did not try.

Please do not be negative , every person situation and circumstances are different. Pursue your dreams , success or failure does not determine you , it is the effort you put in.

Yeah, nope. If I have two kids and have a reasonable quality of life in India, it would not be fair to my family to take them to Canada without doing my research.

Are you seriously suggesting that it's better for a family to come to Canada and potentially end up homeless because "the next generation will be in very good condition"? Yes, being homeless in Canada is possibly better than being desperately poor in India, or being shot at in a war zone, but there's no way it's better than living a reasonably stable life in small-town India.

No one on this forum is telling people to stay back in India (or any country). Quite the contrary. I, and many others, spend time on these forums (for free, mind you, no one is paying me) helping other people achieve their dreams of migrating to Canada.

What we are telling people is simple - do your research, spend time understanding the challenges facing you, make your plans carefully, and be prepared to work hard.

No person will come without research .

Everyone knows that one has to struggle in the initial phase , most people do that. If someone wants to come they should give it a try , rather than regret it later in there life.

As far as " Homeless " is concerned I do not think people can become homeless in Canada , here people can get survival jobs easily , and along with benefits people can have a decent life. At the same time they can pursue and try and improve there situation further.

Better future for children , and having passport of a country like Canada is not a small thing.

Regularly see people have done almost no research on moving to Canada from the very educated to those with very little education or skills. I find it shocking but you regularly find people on this forum who have been told that they need to immigrate to Canada but have not looked at whether their skills are needed, what the cost of living will be, whether the rest of their family can be sponsored to Canada, the cost of public schooling is free but daycare, university or before or after school care is not, the cost of transportation is often significantly higher than what they expected, many are used to employing help and home which will likely out of reach in Canada and are expecting that a single income will be possible. What people have heard of is the relatively new child benefit payments, school is free and healthcare is free. In reality healthcare is only partially free. Many expect immediate no wait times and haven’t considered the cost things like dental care, prescription drugs, longterm illness, etc. Same thing as school. Elementary school may be free but working parents often spend $500-700 monthly on childcare before and after school plus thousands of dollars a month for childcare during the summer and holidays. Many Canadian families also base their family planning decisions based on their budget and the ability to pay for childcare.

Unfortunately you have not lived in Canada long enough if you don’t believe homelessness exists. I am not saying that there is worse poverty in other countries but 1 in 5 Canadian children go hungry on a regular basis. Many seniors are only getting enough to eat thanks to charity and many live in substandard or temporary housing. What if you got sick and your spouse had never worked, had to care for small children plus had to care for you. Even worse what if you passed away. How would your family pay their bills? Have you seen the welfare rates in Canada. Most welfare rates don’t cover the rent or just cover the rent without accounting for food, transportation, etc. Believe a mother and 2 young children gets around $1300 a month in welfare payments from Ontario. That is not a lot of money to live on.

Yes your children have the opportunity to do well in Canada but they also have opportunities in many countries. The fact that people come for only the passport is maddening and because of our global world 3 years is not going to be long enough to guarantee a life of free benefits for generations to come. I expect that residency requirements and time paying into the Canadian tax system is going to have to change for the system to be affordable.

Not telling people not to move to Canada but people should do research on whether there is a need for their profession in Canada. If you work in oil and gas it is probably not the best time to move to Canada. Are you a foreign trained dentist or pharmacist? Have you seen there is a surplus of dentist and pharmacists already in Canada. Licensing is likely not your big obstacle. IMGs...I don’t know why anyone would move if they want to practice given there is such a small chance of being able to become a family doctor. A specialist has no chance in my opinion unless from a few select countries. If you immigrate and are a truck driver what happens when automation becomes the norm. What are your plans in 10 years? Many also assume that they will be able to sponsor their parents and soon. Although this year 20K people may be able to sponsor their parents this year there are no guarantees that will continue. Provinces have big deficits and have already started cutting services for individuals already in Canada so adding older adults will likely be very unpopular and not feasible budget wise. When deciding to come to Canada people must realize that being able to sponsor parents is not guaranteed. I don’t want to seem negative. Canada is still a great place to live but money definitely doesn’t grow on trees and you will likely have hard times not only when you arrive in Canada but sometime during your adult life in Canada. There are recessions, layoffs, family illness, financial strain, family issues, etc. People not only have to think of plan A but plan B and plan C if considering coming to Canada and whether they are willing to step out of the comfort zone and out of what may be typical for their cultural group when they arrive. If the whole family is up for the challenge then they should consider Canada.

Biggest regrets of life are the risks you did not take.

Experts here think that people who have never stepped a foot outside their country, will get all the insight and experience through Google.
Its better to try and fail than not try at all.

Also, ppl should not base their decisions on online forum member messages, who may have a hidden agenda or are just plain pessimistic, who themselves may be regretting their move.

People need to examine what their expectations are. If they have realistic expectations, are ready to start from scratch if necessary and are willing to be flexible plus have done their research they should move to Canada if that is what they think is best for their family. Blanket statements that they should try to immigrate to Canada (or another country) make no sense.

I agree , we need to take chances before our times are over.

What I said before , most people who are negative or you say " cautious " are themselves living in Canada .

I know one guy from Haryana ( India ) , who came here with family , and then went back to India , but returned again since he liked here more. Though he was struggling , he still wanted to be in Canada.

The bottamline is that if you want to , you should give it a try , no one will die of starvation in Canada.
