Good day, everyone.

So I applied back in October 2018 for Express Entry, received my ITA in the same month after a few weeks.

Because it was stated that normally, processing takes 6 months, I was just regularly checking the CIC website regarding the status of my application (not my email) but no change happened in the CIC website until the 6 months processing time has lapsed, so I sent a message via the webform inquiring about the status of my application last April 7.

I received a reply from CIC dated April 14 stating that they have sent me a PPR last March 18, but since I was on vacation at that time and could not open my email (I was using a traveller SIM card and did not activate my roaming so I could not get my security code to open my email), I only managed to view the reply when I returned from my holiday on April 18. However, it was already too late, as the PPR stated that I should have complied with sending my passport to my closest VAC within 30 days of the original email (March 18).

I sent an email immediately to CIC via the webform on April 18 asking for an extension and I'm waiting for a reply but I just want to know if I have already completely blown my application or if it's OK as long as I send my passport to the closest VAC as soon as possible or if it's OK to wait for the CIC to reply back, because I have another overseas trip scheduled on May 8 and I would need to have my passport then as well so I would prefer to get an extension and send it after my trip in May instead of cancelling/rescheduling it.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Bad luck ! Your application will be refused now as it is clearly stated in the email that you have to submit passports within 30 days. Sorry to say but they won’t give any extension as you are already late.

It’s bad that you missed the timelines. You can call and ask ircc if they can do something about it else you have to go through entire process again.
I live overseas, do you have any advice on how to call IRCC? T^T Do they have hours that they accept calls? Or is it open 24/7? I wanted to call the VAC office for advise but they were closed for Holy Week holiday and will only return to work on Monday.

Same/Similar case for me. I just had 5 days after I saw it. Please note, email may not be applicable. Look for what is the date in your cic web login. I received email 13 March, I received letter in web login on 29 March. I checked my login on 10 April I also have a travel planned in 2 weeks. I was also confused whether to postpone it. But I quickly sent my passports with a request for early assessment. I got my passport back within 4 days. Just yesterday actually.

I did not receive any letter from within my web login in the CIC website, which was why I missed it. I was checking the website regularly every 2-3 days and there was no notice that they sent me anything. I only received the email itself, dated March 18, and I only found out when CIC replied (April 14) to my status update request sent via the Webform a day after 6 months has lapsed (April 7). T^T

Plus, the local VAC office is closed due to holiday when I returned from my trip, so earliest I can submit it is on Monday, which is already 5 days beyond the deadline. Should I continue to send over my passport or should I wait for CIC to respond to my email sent last April 18?

Well, I think you should take a chance. else all your effort is wasted. I suggest, personally go to VAC, with a letter explaining the things. They may consider it. If you dont apply then it is 100% loss. If you apply, then there is a chance. I am sure they make exceptions, not everyone misses the dates. Go for it, Risk your other travel. where are you based?

I'm from the Philippines. I'm not sure whether I should take an emergency leave on Monday and go directly to the VAC office or if I should call the VAC on Monday first then see what they say before going on Tuesday instead? The VAC office is a little far from where I am based so it's a little hard for me to arrange to go, but if it would be better to go immediately, I'll do it. T^T

Just an update on my situation.

So on Saturday, I stumbled upon a thread here in the forum (I can't find it anymore but it was a thread on how to request an extension for PPR submission) and somewhere in the replies, one of the people mentioned that we should try to email CIC Ottawa as well, aside from sending a message via the CIC webform. So I decided to send an email to CIC Ottawa explaining my situation from the beginning and attaching the same files I attached in the webform.

CIC Ottawa replied to me today saying that they are granting me an extension to submit my passport. Thank God I saw that thread and emailed CIC Ottawa. T^T So now, I can freely travel on May 8 and submit my passport to the closest VAC office after I come back.

So anyone in the future in a similar situation, I suggest you just try to contact CIC and CIC Ottawa (do both) as soon as possible and explain your situation. They will understand if your reasons are legitimate and grant an extension. :)

Wonder why you will make such a discouraging comment without any proof.
We all know that people have missed deadlines and still got an extension. My friend missed her interview email in August 2018. Just found out in January 2019. She was given another interview date and landed in February

Hello ,

Mine is similar situation, I got my PPR on 2nd April and the application status was not updated and still showing as In Progress.
Yesterday I checked my mail and they told me to send passport to nearest VFS office and also mentioned that within 30 days of receipt of this mail it should reach Delhi High commission. Today is 27 and saturday so Pune VFS is closed. I will submit on 29th then , will it be ok in this case
Also I am not sure weather this the exact mail for PPR, as there is no bar code in it. But they did mentioned UCI and Application number in it.

And mail starts as follows :

Dear Mayuri Patankar:

This is in reference to your application for permanent residence. To finalize your application, we require:

1) Passports

  • VFS is our trusted partner for safe and secure passport transmission. Using VFS services is the only way to submit your passport. Contact VFS in India (www.vfsglobal.ca/canada/india) or in Nepal (www.vfsglobal.ca/canada/Nepal) and pay the requisite fees for thePassport Transmission Services . A separate envelope is required for each passport.

  • Please take this letter and present it to VFS for the purchase of the secure Passport Transmission Service. VFS will send your passport to the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi in a secure envelope. You will then be advised by VFS when your passport has been returned and is ready to be picked up.

  • Please note that permanent resident visas cannot be placed in Diplomatic, Official or Military passports.
  • There must be at least two blank pages in each passport.
  • We are unable to issue a visa beyond the expiry date in your passport. Your passport must be valid for at least six months.

2) Photographs

Please provide two (2) recent photographs along with your passports for yourself and each accompanying dependent. For instructions on photo requirements and specifications, see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/pdf/5445EB-e.pdf
