To my defense, i wasnt throwing a fit or anything. I just said, i am readying myself if in case my application is sent to PSU. Thats all.

Anyway, Since you are in Canada and a citizen in your own right, as what you have mentioned, maybe it'll help if you'll seek assistance from your MP. I wish you goodluck!

Hi Friends ..me too long waiting ..near one year ..is it normal time... i am Canadian...applied for mine 3 child for Proof of Citizenship ..from out side Canada ...application submit may 2018....still no reply from cic ...received latter in july 2018 that application send to Processing Unit ,,,from that no update...even status same from start " application Received"
Please i am tooo worry ....tell me its normal time ...or for me only ...near one years ..May b i applied for 3 child ..for proof of citizenship ..no idea .....worrrrrrriedd ....pls reply . Thanks

Result: 553 days
It is 553 days from the start date to the end date, end date included.

Or 1 year, 6 months, 7 days including the end date.

Or 18 months, 7 days including the end date.

@kjaved - did you send a webform query already?

Ive come to this hypothesis that since Canadians under 18 get to have allowance from the Canadian government (if they are in Canada), CIC tends to prolong the approval process given the benefits these under 18 applicants will have. This "prolonged approval process" applies even if the application is routine - no change in name, no issues in birthday or gender, or supporting docs are all consistent with the Canadian parent.

They is a huge possibility that they will request DNA test. But they don't request it immediately. They put your application on their desk and let is sit there for two years and inform you only after that timeline.

I agree. I was so desperate for sending my child to go to school in Canada.
It's ridiculous after sending urgent processing, my application suddenly got approved without no additional documents or anything, just from PSU to approved. Where have you been all this time? Maybe just like what you mentioned there, let it sit there for two years... crazy!!
Thank God my urgent processing got approved and now my child is enjoying kindergarten in Canada and reunited with her father too.

Hope you all got yours fast. My plan that time was if I didn't get approved for urgent processing, my husband will contact his local MP.
Maybe it can help some of you who needs some clue of what to do.

Hey

I applied for Canadian Citizenship by descent (proof of citizenship) in October, 2018.

I am 62yr old married female born and raised in NYC. My mom was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia in 1923. In 1951, my parents were married in Cape Breton, NS and then immediately relocated to NYC. I was born in 1956 and in 1964, my mom became a US Citizen. My mom passed away last year.

I am currently a seasonal resident of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and own the family property that has been in my father’s side for almost 200 years. As a child I spent every summer visiting my family on both my mother’s side and my father’s side. My father was born in Boston but his father was born in Cape Breton. I had no idea about Canadian Citizenship by Descent until last September.

I sent my application and the following copies that were Notarized at UPS store in NY: My mom’s birth certificate, my parents marriage certificate, my father’s birth certificate, my birth certificate, my marriage certificate, my passport, and my drivers license.

Here is my timeline:
  1. We received your application for a citizenship certificate (proof of Canadian citizenship) on October 18, 2018.
  2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on October 24, 2018.
  3. We sent you a letter on November 27, 2018. Please consider delays in mail delivery before contacting us.
  4. We sent you a letter on November 28, 2018. Please consider delays in mail delivery before contacting us.
Item 3 was informing me that I applied for a signon to a system that does not apply to me and therefore the account was deleted.
Item 4 was a Ghost Update sent to me on February 4, 2019 informing me that my application has been sent to the Program Support Unit.

I have no idea why my application was sent to PSU. Is it because of Notarizing birth certificates in NY? Would it be worth my while to go to the Canadian Embassy with all my documents and try to get them notarized there? Should I wait until this summer when I return to Cape Breton and get my documents notarized by an attorney there? Would it pay to re-apply using an attorney service?

Thanks in advance. I’ve been reading the forum posts daily and you all are so helpful.

If you want to resubmit your application, you should probably withdraw it first. But I don't think it would make a difference. Once you got your AoR, it means you did everything correctly (filling out application, notarizing your copies, etc) and a file was created for you. I don't think you needed to include your parents marriage certificate, father's birth certificate or your marriage certificate though. I know it can be frustrating to now have to wait up to two years for your application to go through the PSU, but that is how bureaucracy is; so the best thing would be just to set it aside and get on with your life.

Dear Hawk, are you saying that usually once your application goes to psu, just wait like 2 years. If that is it, the system is really bureaucratically-slow.

Yes sireee Bob, that's it exactly!

If you were to call the CIC call centre and tell the agents that your application is with PSU they'll tell you that they can't take any action unless 24 months have passed since they received your application and you haven't heard from them by then.

Two years is just when they start "taking action" (whatever that means) if your case hasn't been finalized. You could very well be waiting longer. Why do you think I'm thinking of going to my MP?

Hey Hawk

The reason I submitted so many additional documents with my application is because my birth certificate and application have one last name and my current documents have my married name. I just figured it would make sense to document the name changes from maiden names to married names.

Thank you for your input :) I will post if some miracle happens where certificate comes sooner than 2 years.

I was undecided if i shall request for gcms notes. My status is AOR received since January 28 2019 btw. My main considerations in requesting are the several "AOR" statuses then havent been updated to by cic/ecas and "forever processing" if inquired about in the webform. Fast forward to the ATIP/GMCS notes request, After i clicked on the request button, i saw a disclaimer from the canada.ca website something like IRCC has been receiving significant volumes of request/application at this time. Please consider delays in our response.

Then i changed my mind. patience is a virtue. I was thinking My request will trigger additional workload to the ircc/cic that may cause further delays in the applications.

I just thought i needed to share. hahaha
