Hello,

I am filling up the form for my son for Canada Citizenship and I do have a question regarding Question 9 D.

My son passport was expired after coming to Canada (Expired in Mid July). And we didn't realize for almost 5 months. We renewed his passport (End of January). Do I need to provide an explanation for this? What explanation should I provide? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question 9D

Check the box to indicate if there are any gaps in time in the validity period of the child’s passports or travel documents for the relevant period. If there are gaps between the validity of any passports or travel documents, explain why in the space provided.
You have to include the 5 month gaps where your son had an expired passport and wrote in the space provided.
In my opinion, explanation can include, but not limited to, you forgot to renew and/or you and him had no travel plan etc.

Hi guys,

I’m going to attend Oath ceremony next week but I’m wondering whether they will take off the COPR or not. As I’m understood the COPR can be a very important information to apply for something in the future..

Can anyone advise for it?

Regards,

Even though the invitation specifically asks for it - in my case, they only checked (and took away) your PR when checking you in for the ceremony. From everything I have read on this forum that seems to be standard. Definitely still carry it, as they are well within their rights to ask for it, but I don't expect they will take it from you. It might also help to make a copy beforehand if you feel it could be useful in the future

Hi,
don't worry, they will not take your COPR. What they take from you is the PR card.

Hi, congratulations :)
at the oath ceremony they ask us to bring lots of documents. can you please help explain some of the process that occurs on oath day? do they take back our pr card and landing paper? why do they ask us to bring all our current and expired passports again? thanks

Hi canadian.dream1! My apology for the late response. Thank you. They will only take the PR card, you will keep the COPR for future use. As what I've heard during the ceremony, the government will ask you this document when you apply for Old Age Pension in the future. As for the old and current passports, they will only check it if they want to clarify something in your previous travels. They will not take it from you.

Hi toe2head. You're right. As what I've heard during the ceremony, the government will ask you this document when you apply for Old Age Pension in the future. So, keep your COPR in a safe place for future use.

Hi guys,

I did my test yesterday and got the "decision made" today. I think they just did it to me in a way that my application processing time is slightly under 12 months. lol

Cheers.
