Applying for TN visa after urgent processing for grant of Canadian citizenship

Hi there,

If I got my grant of Canadian citizenship processed urgently (e.g. because I needed to be Canadian for a certain job, which has this as a requirement), is there some kind of waiting period after becoming Canadian which I have to follow before I can apply for an US TN visa?

Thanks!

No, but this question just shows how you are trying to game the system. It won't work. Obviously you are not interested in a job that requires Canadian citizenship. They will see that when you apply. Even people who actually need citizenship for a job are often refused urgent processing.

Be careful. Based on your past two questions, it appears that you're looking to game the system. You could end up barred from Canada as well as the US...

Just to put some details into what 21Goose said: If you misrepresent material facts about your status and intentions, your citizenship is in jeopardy even after you received it. They could revoke it at any point in the future. Yes, even 20 years later.

Let's just keep it simple: You obviously want to work in the states, so how about... you know... apply for a US work visa?

US work visa only opens up on April 1st, and the quota is limited which means a lottery is needed. if you don't win the lottery, you can't get the visa. Even you win a lottery to get work visa, the visa can only be effect on Oct 1st. this means you will have 6 month gap that you can't work for that US employer.

However TN status can start your job any time during the year.

I am aware of the difficulties to get a US work visa. This doesn't change that it is the only viable option that the OP has to be able to work in the states in the near future.

There is nothing wrong with applying for Canadian citizenship and then, about a year of processing later, use it to go to the states. But the OP needs to be realistic that this will take a year and that the urgent path they have in mind doesn't work.

I don’t think he was trying to game the system- he is just as clueless as many people who asked ‘my company needs me to travel or I will be fired can I apply for urgent processing “ or “I will lose my US job offer if I don’t have Canadian passport “ - not trying to game the system , but just wishfully interpreting that requirement about job as “any job including US job that needs TN or jobs that needs easy travel documents “

Such people don’t need wise advice. They should go in their merry way and suffer the consequences. They’re the reasons for the insidious bill C-24.

You are talking about H1B, there are many other types of work visas there such as L, O, J ... that don’t involve any lottery

If you give them the honest reason why you are applying urgently (i.e. saying you need to apply for a TN Visa as a Canadian citizen) then you're not cheating the system. It will most likely get rejected as it won't be considered urgent unless it was a Canadian organization but at least you're giving it an honest try. If you lie then that's when you get in trouble.

If you meet the requirements to apply for citizenship, go through the process fair and square without misinterpreting information, and then you decide to leave even right after you get citizenship, they will never revoke it. It is a Canadian Citizenship right (Mobility Rights) to enter and leave the country freely.

This. Just apply honestly and leave afterwards ;)
