Inland Sponsorship Question - TRV needed?

Hi all,

Apologies if these questions have been asked before! I'm just on the CIC website and looking through form IMM5533e (document checklist) and was hoping you guys could clear up a couple of things. The background for my case is that I'm a UK citizen who is married to a Canada citizen. We are intending to go ahead with Inland sponsorship. I am currently back in the UK, working for a few extra months to save some money so I can support myself whilst waiting for the 4/5 months it takes to get an OWP.

Question 5 on the sponsor supporting documents-
'If you are not working in Canada, provide other documentation showing that you can support the person(s) you are sponsoring. This must
include a detailed explanation of how you plan to support yourself and the sponsored person(s) on a separate piece of paper'

My husband is currently not working (he was on welfare for a period of around six months which ended when we got married this month) and I support him via my wages from my UK job (I pay his rent). I am saving up enough so that when I come back to Canada we will have plenty of money to tide us over until he either finds a job or I get my OWP (I was previously working in Canada on an IEC visa and my former employer has said, if they have vacancies, they will gladly take me back once I get my OWP). What documents would he need to provide for this question since I'm currently supporting him?

The other question is Question 1 for me (principal applicant) -
'If you (the principal applicant) are living in Canada, provide proof of your status in Canada (e.g. copy of temporary resident visa, study
permit or work permit, temporary resident permit, including out of status documentation). If you do not have status in Canada, please provide
an explanation on a separate piece of paper, as well a copy of any paperwork you have that is relevant to your status'

As a UK citizen do I need to have a TRV before I come to Canada? My understanding is that because I'm from a visa exempt country, I can stay in Canada for up to 6 months. If so, how do I prove this? On my last vacation to Canada (for two weeks) my passport wasn't stamped.

Thanking you in advance for your replies!

If I understood right he is your husband and is a Canadian Citizen and you are not. Regardless if you are working or not anyone on Social Assistance can not sponsor their spouse. He will need to show his notice of assesment for last year when he sponsors u. If I were you get him to find a job as soon as possible and you apply for a work permit first. Be prepared the government might tell him he needs to repay every dollar he took on assistance before they look at his application. I hope it works out for you being away from your loved one is never fun.

You don't need a TRV as a UK citizen. Proof of status is your passport stamp. Ask for one when entering the country or get a travel record.

Hi, thanks for your reply! Just to clarify, he is no longer on social assistance. He stopped this month before our wedding (March) and we're intending to start our sponsorship application in June/July.

Will he still need to repay the social assistance money he received just because he's going to be my sponsor?
