Hi everyone,

Hope everyone's having a great start to the week!

I have another question on RO and would like to get your kind advice.

I have been outside Canada since late 2016 and my RO will come to end in Aug this year. I have already met the 730 days requirement.

1) My question is will my new 5 year timeframe start in Aug 2019?

2) If I return in Late July (before the deadline), and depart after a couple of weeks but plan to return every year for a few weeks, will I have any troubles with losing my PR? I do intend to do so for next 2 years and be back to complete my remaining 730days in the 2nd RO timeframe.

Due to work progression, I'm hoping to stay outside Canada longer but yet want to make sure I still meet my RO.

Many thanks again for your advice/suggestions.

  1. It’s not a new 5 year term. It becomes a rolling 5 year term. At anytime you enter Canada, you must have 730 days in the previous 5 years of the date you enter Canada.
  2. Yes, you probably will risk loosing your PR status. Based on your post, you acquired your residency early (2014-2015?) before you left Canada. Those residency days will start dropping off the RO after 5 years. If you remain outside of Canada for a couple of more years (2021?), you will only have a few weeks/months of time in Canada and will be in violation of RO.
