I am getting a job offer from Toronto and they are asking about my salary expectations. I did some research and it seems like Toronto is incredible expensive.

What is a normal cost of living for a single guy? I would want my own apartment and maybe lease a normal car for travel between office and home if the apartment is away from Downtown Toronto.

If you work downtown you won't be able to drive. Parking is too expensive. Most take public transportation. Not having a car as a single young man could probably save you close to $1000 a month between monthly payment, insurance, parking, basic regular maintenance, gas.

I'm also interested in the answer to this. The last time I lived in Toronto, the rents were considerably lower and all bills were included. These days it seems as though most apartment and condo buildings charge extra for hydro. If anybody can offer any advice then I'd be appreciative.

I'd prefer to live downtown but somewhere like Y&E is also fine and I'd be looking at renting a studio/bachelor or small 1 bedroom place on my own. It has to be clean and fairly modern and basement apartments are completely out of the question.

You're probably looking at $1800+ for a studio or small 1 bed condo somewhere downtown or even further out. If your budget is lower look at apartments. Younge davisville to Yonge Lawrence corridor has quite a lot of apartment buildings. Most will not be that modern. Expect to pay extra if you want to install air conditioner but the rest of the utilities should be included. Condos are all different. Expect to pay at least some of the utilities.
