Hello

I am working as Management Trainee at the Enterprise Rent A Car, Saskatchewan. They flood us with tons of overtime. I work 48-53 hours a week and I feel like I will hit 1560 hours in 7 months. My question is, can I claim my 7 months (1560 hours) as a one year experience.?

No - you can't.

You need 52 weeks of work experience of at least 30 hours each. Even if you worked 90 hours in one week, you can still only count that as one week of work experience.

No, you need one year of full-time work. (1560 hours is given for part-time workers, who by definition must work longer than one year to meet the requirement).

What NOC code did you apply for with your Enterprise Rent A Car experience?

For a definitive answer on IRCC pages click on "minimum requirements" then click on "1 year of skilled work experience in Canada" in this link and look at the last line in the pop-up box. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/eligibility/canadian-experience-class.html which states "We don't count any hours you work above 30hours/week"

my pay slip shows 86.67 Hrs for 15 days and same for remaining 15 days in a month so how much time is calculated for a month

and secondly my work extends from Apr 2016 to Feb 2019 will i be eligible for CEC as this feb completes my 1 Yr Canidian Work experience

If you have worked a minimum of 30 hours a week for 52 weeks, you meet the minimum eligibility to apply for CEC.

If you started working again in February 2019 then you will need to wait until February 2020 before you will qualify for CEC. The one year of Canadian work experience must be within the last three years.

Hi scylla,

thanks for your reply

i started working in may 2016 so 3 yrs would be may 2019 right

so if i already have started working from Feb 2019 would they not consider it as continuation of 3yr cycle

secondly at the end of March i will complete 30HR/1560HRS before my 3 yr cycle would they not consider it

If you worked in Canada from May 2016 to December 2016 - then you have around 8 months of Canadian work experience and need around 4 more to qualify for CEC. If you started working again in Feb 2019 in Canada, then you need to work until around June 2019 get the one year. By that time, you will no longer be able to count the work experience you gained in May and June 2019 since it will be greater than three years old. This is based on my understanding of the dates you have provided.

You need 52 individual weeks with at least 30 hours. You cannot apply before you have 30 hours and 52 separate weeks.

Based on my calculations, you will need to work until January 2020 before you have the full year. You returned to Canada and started working again a few months too late. Your old work experience is going to start dropping off (and can't be counted) before you reach the one year of work experience. You have around eight months of work experience from 2016. You need another four months. IF you started working on Jan 24, 2019 - four months takes you to late May 2019. However by that time, you will no longer be able to count the work experience you gained in April and May 2019.
