Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Me and my family have applied through community sponsorship for refugees in Canada, we are Syrians who work in Qatar. We got accepted and our landing is in February.
Now we are planing of moving there, and enroll my daughter in school and all. However, I have a couple of questions/concerns please:

  1. • is it okay if I only travel back to Qatar to finish up my work related stuff and our home stuff (lets say for around 3 months not more) and then i go back to Canada. I will be using my Syrian passport to go back to Qatar.
  2. • the other option we have is I go back to Qatar, finish up and then go to Istanbul, Turkey (as i got a very good job opportunity that will boost my career and experience a lot)

knowing that in both option i will be using my Syrian passport (i wont be renewing it nor visiting Syria as i can't anyways).

P.S even if i issue travel document i wont be able to go to Qatar as they wont issue any kind of visa on the travel document,,, also in Turkey they wont issue a work permit on the travel document they only can issue a visit visa valid for 3 months that cant be renewed

please advice if both options are legally okay or which one is safer

You cannot travel on your Syrian passport. Doing so means you are availing yourself of the protection of Syria and therefore don't need protection from Canada as a refugee.

You can't use your passport.
You can't renew your passport.
You can't travel to Syria.

No way around these 3 rules.

Since they were kind enough to sponsor you, I would assume you should place your trust that they won’t lead you astray.

Many countries don't accept the RTD. Have you notified your sponsors about your plans to work abroad right away? The whole point of the private sponsorship process is for a group to sponsor a family and pay for the living expenses for a year. During that time the group is supposed to help you integrate into Canada, find employment, find schools, show you the various systems in Canada, etc.

Hello all,
Just to update u guys, we have decided to go and settle in Canada for good.. having said so, some replies here claiming that our refugee status are not "genuine" because i got a job offer in a country other than my own or canada, well our claim from the beginning was that i can't go back to syria for a lot of genuine resons and it will be so dangerous for me, i have no said anything about me not being able to work nor boost my careet and experience. I believe the experience i could have made in that career would be great even for the canaidan work place. But again to be on the safe side we would go to canada and stay there..

Thanks all for the replies

Don't think most were claiming you weren't a genuine refugee. The major issue was your lack of commitment to actually settle in the country that was giving you asylum not to mention a lack of respect for the community group that is using their own money to support you in Canada. Sponsorship groups get thousands of emails from desperate families around the world. You have won the asylum lottery and have been granted a safe place to live with your family. On top of that you also a community group who will ease you into the transition and provide you with a nicer quality of life than many Canadian asylum protected people and give you lots of individual attention. Many refugees are dependent on government payments that are hard to survive on and a case worker who is trying to juggle the need of many families. It seemed ungrateful and unbelievable that you wanted to leave Canada right away and already had 2 options and also wanted to use your Syrian passport.
