Hello everyone!
I am in a desperate need of help any piece of info any of you have please tell me.I am an international student in Canada from India.I am in a co-op program so i need co op work permit and my co op work term starts from January 2019 to dec 2019.My college did not told me that it takes 2 months. They said they will tell us when to apply but now they said jobs are going online from Oct 1 and if you do not have work permit by then you will not be allowed to apply for any job.( i will be blocked from college job site). So i have applied co op permit online but it will take 2 or 3 months even bu then i will loose many good job opportunities. So i am thinking of going to Canadian Border .I dont know if it is same as flagpolling or what.i have valid study permit of canada expiring in july 2019.I do not have us visitor visa.can i go there?please please help me as for me my whole future depends on this co op work experience.

As you have applied online, I don't think it is a good idea flagpoling (just my opinion). Just show the college that you have actually applied for the co-op work permit (as long as you have applied with the correct documents, the co-op work permit is pretty much guaranteed, as it is part of the course). I done the same thing and I was allowed to go on interviews when my permit was being processed. My experience was the same as yours. The college did not tell me until quite late on that I had to apply for a work permit to do the co-op term. It sounds like unless you know about this procedure , the college is not going to tell you at the start of the course. I actually applied for jobs on my own too (actually got a permanent position through the term I got on my own). My advice would be send your resumes out to a lot of companies by yourself. Do not rely on the college to get you a job.

Hi russ6970! Thanks for your valuable input. I have a question: My brother is in the same boat as harleenharry above and we are trying to figure this out for him. He got a job offer from January 7, 2019 and may not get the co-op work permit in time. Do you know if the implied status applies in this case? Can he at least start working? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,
I know it is late but I wanted to update the discussion so atleast it is useful to someone in need in future.
So I did not flagpoled as many people here and my friends too said the same thing. I waited. I was late in applying to jobs but I got one.
As for flagpolling, I did not go as I did not had US visitor visa. Well, it is not a requirement to have US visitor visa but with this visa, it gets less scarier as we can go to US and then come back to Canada and no officer can refuse our entry i know technically it will not be literally be "flagpoling" but yes it can work and when you return you can rewuest for new status or whatever.
