Hi All,

I'm currently based in the USA, and, am in the midst of negotiating a couple of job offers in Toronto. I was looking to get a sense on what would be considered a good salary band to be able to live comfortably in Toronto (I'm single, and, don't have a family to support). A couple of factors that I'd like to list follow-

• Considering the location of the jobs, I will be living downtown to avoid a long commute. Also, I'd like to be fairly social (bars, restaurants, travel et al), at least to begin with, to be able to build a network within Toronto.
• I'm leaning towards buying a car to be able to get around on weekends.

Many thanks!

A 1 BR apartment downtown will cost you $1,800 per month. Car payments will obviously vary based upon the car purchased, but you can expect a few hundred dollars and then an additional $150+ for insurance. Add in food, entertainment, vacations, etc. and you will need at least $80k to live comfortably.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Being single does have 1 big disadvantage.
Your rent gonna eat much of your salary unless you want to squeeze in a shared accommodation &/or you have comparatively high wage job.

maverick_bigapple - are you also in New York? I am a US citizen living in New York and currently looking for a job in Canada with a preference for Toronto. I would also appreciate job and apartment hunting tips. I have heard the people in Toronto do get into roommate situations to save money. Does anyone know how common this is and how easy/difficult it would be to find a place without a job? I hope to get a job offer before moving to Canada, but if I don't find one in the next few months, I might just move over anyway as I have heard that it is much easier to find a job when you are already in Canada.

Is salary of 75000 before tax enough for family of 3 in Toronto?
It should be enough as long as you maintain a lifestyle that matches your income level. If you start spending/ buying stuff you don't need or can't afford - you'll eventually get drowned in debt.
