Hi all,

Quick question, I have interviewed for a job in Vancouver and been advised the salary is 80k CAD. I'm currently on £30k in Scotland in a very similar job. Is this salary enough to live reasonably in Vancouver?

Thanks
H

It really depends on your definition of living reasonably. Vancouver is an expensive city. Will you be able to rent a place on that salary? Sure. Will you be able to buy a house? Nope.

You can look at the following web site to get a sense of what things cost:

https://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-living/vancouver

Keep in mind that 80K won't be your take home. You will need to factor in what will go to taxes.

Thanks for that, yeh it's 80k before tax. However when I look at pricing it's doesn't seem that much higher than the UK.... Maybe that's me just looking at it with rose tinted glasses as I feel the UK is very expensive. My definition of reasonable is living in a nice apartment in a normal area... Not the centre of downtown and not having to live hand to mouth

£30k is around 60k CAD... and you are getting 80k...

Vancouver is not as expensive as major cities in the UK (but expensive for Canadian standards).

The page Scylla shared is nicely done IMO.

Moved across to Vancouver from Edinburgh at the end of last year.

Still in the job search process unfortunately, but from my initial impressions and research a £30k job in the UK would be roughly equivalent to a $50-60k job here so if anything you're getting a slight pay rise! :D

Vancouver has a reputation as being expensive but as long as you're not expecting to stay in a fancy condo right in the middle of the downtown core and eating out at the expensive restaurants all the time it's not really that much more expensive than the UK.

The prices I see on this site look to be very high (compared to a number of US cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, NJ) or is it just me thinking so?

I have been offered a salary of 80K for a senior ERP Analyst role. Is this a good salary? (We are a family of 3 and we will be renting initially)

With that salary, you might afford just a 1 bed & den condo.

But that is the US not Canada so no real comparison you should only compare Canadian cities.
