I have a very weird question. Are there any negative implications of applying for a credit card after your e-APR? So if i decide to apply and have a new credit card right after e-APR, I, obviously, will not have it declared in the POF (since i applied after e-APR). So will CIC come back saying you got, say, 5 credit cards but you submitted no balance letters for only 4 of them?
Highly, highly doubt it. They likely couldn't care less. I didn't even declare all of my credit cards because they were with other banks.

Oh sweet. Thats a relief. Also, my POF has around 2000 CAD more than the CIC requirement but I have a balance of 500 USD on one of mycredit cards, so the balance letter shows current balance as 500USD. I am assuming its okay. Right?

I would think so. Even if they did subtract the amount you owe on the card (converted to CAD), you're still above the threshold.

Doesn't matter at all. And credit card balances needed to have been declared only at banks where you have accounts holding funds counted in your POF.

I don't even remember what I listed as the contents when I made the label-- it was almost a month ago. I've been on the phone with FedEx twice now this morning giving them additional information. It's not my passport, thankfully, but I've at least been telling them it's immigration documents in the calls.

Unfortunately I don't know what more you can do in your case! We are kind of at their mercy when it comes to these things.
ok update! Just checked my online profile/ cic. It was updated to 'Approved'. :) Now just waiting for the tracking info for the self-addressed envelope to be activated. Hope yours gets to Ottawa very soon!

Hi @Nqur, any updates? Still waiting on my end. It’s been 10 working days since my passport was delivered.
Hi,
Yes I got my application approved and they returned my passport last Thursday. What about you?

@Nqur, congrats! Yeah mine was approved last Thursday, but it hasn't been mailed yet :( I'll just keep sending CSEs until I get it, because I'm getting pretty desperate now.

Hi Folks,

For the people who have already moved to Canada, does US credit score help in Canada? Or do you have to build your own credit score?

Also, what is the best place to stay in Canada as a new single immigrant?

Thanks!

US credit score is not considered in Canada at all. You have to build your credit score from scratch in Canada.

The best place to stay in Canada depends on your field, your goals, and your lifestyle preferences.

@Nqur, officially it's meaningless, but we did include our US credit scores and histories with our rental application and it did play a role in showing our landlord that we would be responsible tenants. We were applying to rent through an individual working with a real estate agent rather than a large rental corporation though so I can't speak for what difference that may have made had we tried that with the latter. Based on our experience, I do think it's worth pulling your report and score in case you're in a situation like ours and having a copy handy (printed plus digital). It won't hurt, at the very least.

Our experience was similar to moose17, we used our US credit to help secure a rental. Other than that, US credit had no impact. There are newcomer programs at many banks to look into to help quickly establish canadian credit.

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone tried Airbnb as a short term option upon landing? Also any tips on the best sites to find an apt or a room share would be very helpful.
