Hi guys,'

Is it normal to see the background status in mycic as "we are processing your background check...." with AOR only on 15 February 2018?
In your case, the background check is processing for criminality check. They are reviewing your pccs. Its commonly referred to IP1 on this forum. In about 6 months it will change to NA

@vpkasbek could you please describe for us different stage processes? For example, when we go to the CIC we can have different stages of reviewing. I am really confused so do other forum users who are trying to understand where are they or at what stage are they... you seem to be very informative and always to the point with answers! Thanks

I found this thread very helpful to understand at least what the whole background check means: https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/the-anatomy-of-a-background-check-in-depth-analysis.500146/

I put this together based on my research. this should shed light on the process but timelines may vary depending on individual situation. Hope you find this information helpful.

CIO- Nova Scotia Sydney facility::::
  • Application submitted (AS) (Application can be linked 3-5 days later to your mycic account)
  • AOR received [1-3 months from AS]
**********Application is moved off shelf and put in processing queue**********
  • ECAS shows in process
  • System generated Reminder email to submitted RPRF, PCCs and updated Sch A form (If you havent submitted RPRF, pay that and can confirm receipt 2-3 weeks later by using RPRF recepit number to login in GCKey) [3-4 months from AOR]
  • Another request to resubmit Sch A (may or may not depending on gaps identified by agent/officer). This time its from actual officer processing your file. His initials can be found at the bottom of letter. [3-5 months from Reminder email]
  • Background check updates to Not Applicable [same day - 3 weeks following submission as long as officer is satisfied with your updated documentation]
************Eligibility and Criminality is done****************

  • Medical request is issued [2-3 months from previous step]
  • You complete medicals
  • You submit medicals via CSE or if you did eMedical then it shows passed/received in ecas [same day - 3 weeks]
**********************Medical is done********************************

CPC - Ottawa facility::::
  • Background check goes into in progress status [same day - 2 weeks from medical passing date]
  • Decision made [2 days - 4 months or more depending on your history]
  • PPR [Not sure, but it seems few weeks]
  • You send passports
  • Received stamped visas and COPR [ 2-3 weeks from passport submission]

Sorry... i just checked my CIC account and I received a pre-arrival services letter on March 2, 2018. Sorry for the confusion. I also asked to send additional documents, which I did right away.

What is your timeline? Are you an inland applicant?

Do you think it is a good sign and soon I will receive medicals?:)
What additional info did they request?

Hi everyone,

I am a PNP-Inland applicant from Ontario (Single applicant, no job required stream). I applied through the paper-based system in March 2017. I recently received my Medical Request (MR) which I now have passed. My timelines are below:

Application Received at CIO (Sydney, Nova Scotia): March 15, 2017
Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR): March 23, 2017
RPRF (Right for Permanent Residence Fee) request and payment: September 22, 2017
Medical Request (IMR/MR): March 2, 2018
Medical Passed: March 19, 2018

Can someone with similar timelines as mine tell me how long they had to wait after they passed their medical for a request for Passport (PPR)? And when did you get a request for your Biometrics (fingerprints)?

Please do not respond with a generic reply of 16 months (currently 18 months)- I know that's the posted benchmark by CIC at the time I applied. I am more looking for OINP paper-based applicant's timelines.

Thanks in advance!

I have very similiar timeline.
OINP, paper based
Application received: March 2, 2017
AOR : April 3, 2017
Got RPRF request : Paid and submitted the receipt on December 13, 2017
Got pre arrival letter : December 12, 2017
BG changed from in progress to not applicable : December 12, 2017
BG changed from not applicable to "We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information" : Feb. 27, 2018
Medical Request : March 01, 2018
Medical Passed : March 14, 2018

However it is really hard to predict, God knows what is their mesure to process the whole thing.
I saw April 2017 applied applicant got the PPR 2 days after the medical passed, and some 2016 applicants still waiting for the PPR.
Good thing is, it looks like they are getting faster.

Looks like they are indeed getting faster....guess something has been done to the management.

My BG is same as yours. Got medical on the 14th of March. Had it done on the 16th. Hoping to see medicals passed by the end of this week and then we begin waiting for the next big news.

I applied 18th April 2017, AOR 7th of July 2017
