Hi all,
I landed on April 20, 2017 in Toronto. As of today, PR card is still to be received. I got a request to resubmit photos on June 20, I sent them immediately and the processing center in Nova Scotia received it on June 22.

I have to go back to Bangalore, India due to a situation that needs my attention (death in extended family) and I have to take care of a few things. I am pretty stressed out at the moment. I also have obtained an offer of employment that requires me to join by Aug 15.

I plan to leave for India this week and apply for PRTD to return back to Canada.

Will I have any issue with regards to granting of the PRTD?
Can any one help with how long the PRTD visa process takes from Bangalore VFS office?

Many thanks.

PRTD from India can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months. (Usually around 2 weeks, but delays are not uncommon.)

If you have a U.S. visa, it will be quicker for you to enter Canada via land border. (No need for PR card/PRTD in this case.) (Niagara crossing is convenient as it is close to Buffalo airport.)

If you don't have a U.S. visa, but are otherwise eligible for one, then you may look at getting an American visa. I believe processing time is generally no more than a week, and Indian citizens usually get 10 year multiple entry visas.

Thanks for the reply. Couple of weeks to months..wow..I wish they were fast with PRTD's at least. US visa not an option at the moment, I will apply for PRTD and see what happens.

I went to Bangalore to visit my family (some of whom I hadn't seen in 18 years) 2 days after "landing" in Canada (Feb 2016). I applied for a PRTD as soon as I arrived in Bangalore. I had a confirmed return ticket for 3 weeks later and gave them copies and indicated the urgency. They issued me my PRTD within 5 days! But again that was almost a year and a half back. So I can't say if anything has changed, but I doubt it.

Submit your confirmed ticket if you have one and as many supporting documents as possible (like proof of employment start date etc.). They do take those things into consideration (at least that is what I was told when I applied, and it seems to have worked).

Ironically, my biggest problem was not with the Canadian embassy, but with the immigration officials at the Bangalore airport, who claimed they had never seen this thing called "PRTD" They almost did not let me board my plane!! Luckily I also had an advance parole given to me because of my pending I-485 adjustment of status in the US. After looking at my AP and discussing my "case" with all kinds of "supervisors" etc they finally allowed me through. Because of that I got delayed by nearly 2 hours. Also luckily for me I had arrived at the airport well ahead of time. Otherwise I would most likely have missed my return flight! So keep that in mind!

As an aside, I was also asked to resubmit my photos. I sent them within 2 weeks of the request (since I reside in the US and my sister who lives in Toronto had to send it to me). My PR card was issued to me exactly 4.5 months after my landing date.

Hi Rish888,

Mine will be same case as I will have to return to India after landing and before I get my PR card. How sure are you about arriving to USA and then crossing the Land border will allow to enter Canada without PR or PRTD? Also, my concern is that it has to be your private vehicle correct? or can it be a public transport?

Please and thanks for your time.

Recently I got PRTD recently from VFS Bangalore, sharing my experience here.

I was working in Canada on a Work Permit and activated my PR in mid Dec. My vacation plan in India was for one month from Christmas to Jan 20. Since I didn't have PR Card, I had to apply for PRTD to re-enter Canada.

Date Applied (VFS Bangalore - in person) - Dec 28
Date application was sent to Canada Consulate in Bangalore - Dec 28
PRTD Approved/Stamped - Jan 3
Passport Received through Courier - Jan 5

While applying VFS Agent told me that it'll take 10-15 working days to get it. But it just took 3 working days(excluding Jan 1 holiday) to approve the PRTD. I got multiple entry PRTD with 2 years validity (Jan 2018 to Jan 2020).

I had written a cover letter explaining the need for PRTD and it's urgency as I had to get back to work. I had provided docs such as my MSP Receipts, Provincial ID Cards, flight tickets etc.
